Looking for Epic

Here's another one of my bloggins posts.

Hope it's not too downbeat considering our win yesterday!

btw:

It does have to do with Ipswich and the Owls (a little)

Sorry if it takes a little shine off a good win

Perhaps you should edit the 'Epic High-Five' photo caption and insert 'Get stuffed if you don't like what I've written'.

I don't think that would win me a favours with readers. I'm open for constructive criticism though.

No, but it's more appropriate (hence the taxidermy).

I agree that we should keep the Ipswich result in perspective, Pabs. But let's not give it *too much* perspective. As you point out, the opposition already had an awful goal difference before yesterday, but GDs are a compound of how many goals teams score as well as how many they let in, and Ipswich are very low scorers.

So although their GD looks tragic, prior to yesterday's game they had conceded 32 from 16 games, which is quite a lot, but still only 2.0 per game. Even away from home, their average GA was only 2.375. While a 2-0, 3-1 or even 3-0 Foxes win might reasonably have been predicted, I think it's a bit glass-half-full to explain away 6-0 with 'yes, but we were at home and they leak goals'.

fatfox, not looking to explain it away. The team played to their strengths, and with a bit of homework, I think the overall score was a little exaggerated due to the few examples given. You might say like Hurricane Sandy, it was the perfect storm that comes around every 30 years.

I would like to think we'll have plenty of gutsy performances with entertainment in spades, but I would hope to think that I or other fans wouldn't now expect it.

Spherical, it's fair to say that I understood this far more than your last post.

Incidentally, what you're demonstrating in this article is the 'Nigel Pearson technique': Ultimate stoicism. If we play well and stuff someone, it's not job done. If we play atrociously and get stuffed, it's not the end of the world. The only time I can remember him breaking from that was the Forest match last weekend.

Wait, hold on... what Forest match? I'm forgetting it already.

DM - I don't think we'll get stuffed this season, and most certainly haven't looked (so far) of this happening, even with the worst ref decisions.

I am trying to keep things in perspective and avoid being overly critical of the players and decisions made by Pearson and Co.

Sure, tactically Pearson will get it wrong and it'll be the end of the world for some fans, but in the long run we're heading in the right direction, and a positive momentum should overcome sticky patches, which will come, as we haven't the largest squad.

I suppose we can take courage from Saturday's display, that when given the opportunity to draw blood that we persisted as a team, and didn't sit back and defend our lead, as we have done in the past, to my utter dismay. Let's hope this attitude is applicable to further matches in the future.
