Retro Footy Games Appreciation

I'm also 33 and had the speccy +2 then amiga then pc then ps2 etc.

SWOS absolutely knackered my school years because i used to literally play it all night, still the best footy game ever.

I think you missed out a major one though Kick Off 2.

I never played Kick Off 2 but I had Player Manager for the Amiga which was very similar and also released by Anco.

Looks like we took the same route platform wise, Jampot. Like you, SwoS (along with CM93) made me quite a reclusive teen at times. I can still remember the excitement I felt at school the day I was getting it. So often the actual experience is a let down, but not with 'Sensi'. I don't know if there is a gaming hall of fame but that would be in there if so.

The next version on where you could become international manager just enhanced the experience.

Always amuses me when you see people arguing about player likenesses on FIFA and PES, when SwoS was essentially playing with Lemmings with different coloured hair!

Graphically, you can't beat the turban wearing players from Match Day 2!

Quite amazed to actually see someone who has played Olympic Soccer, nevermind Olympic Soccer and Soccer Rivals!

I still have OS and crack it out every 6 months or so for a bit of 'WHACK' action.

Awesome game £1.99 it cost me and some of my mates prefer it to FIFA!

Mine came with my PS1, along with Fifa 97, Alien Trilogy, Tunnel B1, Tekken 2 and Crash Bandicoot.

Took me months to actually play it as spent loads of time on FIFA (it had real players and teams goddammit!) but when I finally did I was taken away by its brilliance. The disc got scratched to the point that it was unplayable, but I simply went to the Market and bought another copy for a couple of quid as well.

I just wish I could toggle the commentary from Alan Green to, well, anyone else!

Thats EXACTLY the term me and my friends used to use too. Games would devolve into who could score more goals from the halfway line.

I dont know if it was just me and my mates but when it came to buying players on SWOS the ginger haired ones were always the faster ones.

Think it's both back buttons and R3 n R4.
I remember one game against the COM Raul diving in the penalty area, was well funny, was no one anywhere near him.

I used to like a football game on the Atart ST called Striker, was a behind the player camera I think, remember having great fun with that, also killed Sensible Soccer on ST and Emlyn Hughes on Spectrum
