Perplexing Mysteries at the Pirelli

'Burton Extend Chapell Loan Deal'

Leaving aside the fact that I don't think he is very good, this is the guy who hasn't featured in the team or been on the bench in the last 5 games. I assume he isn't injured otherwise we wouldn't have extended the loan for another month.

'Burton Sign Jacob Blyth'

Zola, Kee, Paterson, Richards and Yussuf are our strikers. Any idea why we have signed a non-league striker?

He was a non-league striker Otep, from what I have read he is a Leicester player. I am not quite sure why we needed him unless GR has completely lost faith in Richards and Yussuf. I think Chappell needs another game or two to determine how good he is, he won't have to do very much to surpass the efforts of Cleveland Taylor. GR appears to be using loans to tide us over and those brought in so far have done that job. Under PP you got the impression that there was no strategy or scouting and loanees were picked out by a sticking a pin in a list of available players.

To those idiots on the Popside on Tuesday night who were on Jacob Blyths back from the moment he came on ... shame on you.

It was embarrassing tuesday night the amount of idiots having a go a the players, get it in to your tiny minds we are not going to win every game we play. The problem is alot of the fans have never played the game they havent got a clue.I was disappointed with the way we performed but i dont abuse the players.

Agreed Otep I didn’t see us signing another striker unless we had sustained a long term injury, but to my knowledge this hasn't happened.

Very much as Frank has said Chapell may be no world beater but he looks a damn sight better than Cleveland so it's an improvement.

Chapell looked a little lightweight to me, but looks like he has a good cross on him, so lets give him another few games - Taylor has not been as good as I was hoping so far, so think keeping Chapell is fine.

Another striker is a strange one especially as Zola, Kee and Paterson are scoring goals. Maybe Adi's injury is worse than we know, and maybe JR is off on loan? we'll find out soon anyway!

As for the fans, thought they were pathetic on Tuesday night to be fair. Constantly on the players backs and very little 'support' all night. Losing our first home game since August must have been hard to take for the majority!

A few stats to add to the Jordan Chapell debate.

20 minutes against Port Vale - scored, albeit a fluke, it still counts 1.

16 minutes against Bradford. 1 cross right on to Billy's head that he should have buried.

90 minutes against Altrincham. Quiet, but planted the ball on Calvin's head when it mattered most.

Total 126 minutes. I goal, 1 assist, 1 clear chance created.

Go Compare.com - Cleveland Taylor, Robin Shroot, Keith Gilroy, Jimmy Phillips, Marc Goodfellow, Kieron Cadogan, Garyn Preen, Lewis Young, Jason Banton, Lionel Ainsworth, Andres Guerreri, Luke Rooney.

Give him another month, I say.

(To be fair, Cleve has actually scored 10 goals, but at a rate of about 1 every 500 minutes and the killer crosses are about as rare, Jimmy 2 goals in 3 seasons (can't count this one as he hasn't kicked a ball in anger yet).

Not so sure about signing Jacob Blyth. Didn't see him on Tuesday but a couple of half chances in 12 minutes? Suspect we've got him for next to nothing to give him a bit of experience? If it does nothing more than get Justin to pull his finger out it will be a good move in my view.

Which brings me to my question - who IS our best loan signing since we've been in the league?

James Collins? (5 goals in 11 starts plus 1 sub)

Or maybe Sam Winnall (7 goals in 12 plus 7 when we couldn't win the toss!)
