GILLY!!!!

I've just heard that this SPURS LEGEND was at WHL, tell me alll about it guys. I loved this guy and today he'd be worth millions. I'm so glad he came back after so long. But at least he saw us win.

Yes the elusive Gilly returned for the first time in 38 years.

They announced the half-time 'entertainment' in the usual way. We got the standard "we're going to be joined by an absolute Spurs legend" pre amble. This usually means one of the pay-roll legends like Beal or Jennings. I thought it would be Peters coming on to say he joined a bigger club in 1970.
Then the key moment -'he joined us from Dundee in 1964".
Cue two guys in their late 50s next to me standing in anticipation, one pointing and saying "this man was my hero".
The great man got a very good reception.
He talked humbly as ever about coming to what he said was the greatest club; about his friendship with John White being key in him coming to Spurs and the tragedy of not being able to play with 'The Ghost' at WHL.
He also spoke about the highlight of his career being the Cup Final of '67 and the elation of parading the cup at Wembley that May.
When asked about comparisons between himself and Berbatov, he said Berbatov was a great player who made a big mistake leaving Spurs.
He spoke of closely following Tottenham's fortunes as a fan.
We were briefly 'introduced to Alan's grand son (a Spurs fan) before he disappeared into the ether again to another ovation.
I wanted to start a'King of White Hart Lane' chant but I am such a gutless wonder in these matters.
For a lot of guys of a certain age it was a big WHL moment.

Morning Guys..................................As someone who had the pleasure of seeing Gilzean play & I can honestly say he was the finest header of a ball that the game has seen. He also had a silky smooth way of playing that seemed effortless yet not lazy.

A great partnership with the greatest goalscorer ever led to the headlines G Men Take No Prisoners!

Gilly was silky smooth i agree Greavsie and he was great to watch heading the inch perfect pass, skimming to ball off of his balding head. So skillful he danced with the ball in close control Knocking the ball from the keepers hands with his hands before kicking it in the net. Never got away with it as far as i can recall. Berba can only hope to be as good as Gilly.
