Possible short term option?

It's only a decent swap if we are going to get someone to replace Downing on the wing or left back. As BR has said many times that we have a paper thin squad and personally I don't want many players to leave in Jan unless they are replaced beforehand.

I would take Bent on loan late in January as a short term fix if we have struggled to get other targets.

I don't want him signing permanently though, too expensive, nearly 29 and reliant on his pace to get in goalscoring positions.

As a 5 month loan to carry us through the rest of this season with more options, we won't get much better than Bent and he would score a few goals for us.

As above. If he can't get in Villas side, how is he good enough for us?

Why sign Bent? He benefits from Downing type players who get the ball into the box.

It's a no brainier move if true.
He scores goals we keep him...he doesn't and he goes back to villa.
