Insulting chants and language.

Let me say first off that I have no defense to give for the behaviour of a small minority of West Ham fans yesterday.

However those Spurs fans condemning it whilst using the term "pikey" as an insult to West Ham fans need to look at themselves, are they unaware that "pikey" is traditionally an abusive term for Romani people? A group of people who like the Jews were sent to Hitler's concentration camps.

Don't be silly, it was always insulting and if you read my link you will see legal precedence has been set and it is now legally a race hate word.

Yes the other end of the spectrum, which ranges from descriptive and possibly mildly pejorative to a word like "pikey" which (and it's the reason for the article) ITV was forced to apologise for when used by Martin Brundle.

Did Tottenham fans not hurl abuse at Nayim (one of their own players) simply because he was Muslim? And I wonder how many Jewish Tottenham fans are in total support of the concentration camps in which Israel places Palestinians?

Every club has their own bad bunch but Spurs and Leeds have more.

I don't think I'm putting any kind of "spin" on what occurred. What a small section of the West Ham support did on Sunday is inexcusable.

I was simply bemused that in the condemnation of those who did it some Spurs fans used the term "pikey" a highly charged offensive stereotyping word.
