I see that Yorkshire have drawn Sussex in their opening Championship game. i have a feeling (I'm often wrong though!!) that THIS will be Yorkshire's year and they will win the Championship. Several good signings (among them Plunkett and Brookes) increases my sense of confidence - and the fact that the youth in the ranks did so well last year (Ballance, Root, Bairstow). What do you think, Yorkie? Got a chance?

The problem Yorkshire might have in the next year or two is how many of these young players will be away with England. Bairstow and Root look like they are the next two in line for a place, Ballance i fear has said he wants to play for England, he's a cracking player and will get higher honours i think. Plunkett for me is no longer the bowler he was a while ago, whereas Brookes i think is a cracking signing for you, he will take wickets and boost the whole team. Yorkshire are growing again and getting better but unlike a few years ago pre central contracts a lot of this young talent may soon be playing pretty much for England. Think you will have a very good season but are short of a Championship team, at the moment !

Tend to agree Beard - though i think after this tour England may release Bresnan back to Yorkshire as he hasn't exactly shone. That and Siders (if his knees hold out!) ensures we have a good bowling line-up, with Rashid and Ashraf as back up to Plunkett and Brookes.Think we have really good bowling lineup, just depends on the batsmen as you say. I'm hoping Compton grows into the England role on this tour so we don't lose Root, he to me is outstanding and should be playing for England. And as you say we may lose Ballance and Bairstow.

Rashid has a lot of work to do, dare i say a move away to another club could re start him. Compton is winning over Root for now but i think Root will get the openers spot sooner rather than later. I see Compton as a stop gap until Root is ready. Much as i like Bres i hope he plays a full season for Yorkshire next year, keeping him well away from the Test team. Going to be a very interesting time in Div 1 next year.
