All teams have had them, that youth player you were all convinced would be the next big thing. Or that guy you had on loan, you were certain that even if he didn't sign for you big things were on his future.
Then they disappeared, so who never fulfilled their potential, got injured/unlucky or just fell through the cracks from your club?
To start you off Sebastien Schemmel, West Ham player of the year 01-02 strongly linked to a big money move to Celtic, the club turned in down. A new manager came in and it was all downhill from then on.
"What on earth happened to him?"

Flanagan does bring up question marks. Was doing brilliantly 2 years ago, not so well last season, and non existent this season

Not non-existent.
He was injured at the start of the season. Back now and played against Anzhi a couple of weeks back.
Playing regularly and well for the U21's now.
Could still make it with us, though I suspect the competition might be too fierce and he ends up playing Premier League for someone else.

Even if he is only half as good as his old man, he will make it.
-----
That is a very big part in the game, having a father who understands the discipline that's required to make it. I got the impression at the Academy he wasn't the most talented but one of the most determined, and that's why he wouldn't accept being in the ressies. Good luck to the lad, I reckon he's a dead cert to make it as a very good player.

No one's mentioned Matt Jansen. Michael Bridges or Paul Kitson

Nii Lamptey. Looked fantastic at the youth world cup for Ghana about 16 years ago, some even spoke of him as the next incarnation of pele.
My team, villa, then promptly bought him and promptly shipped him out again.

The oldsters from our board will remember Ben Thornely.

Ah, Ben Lindsay Thornley! Had two spells at my beloved Huddersfield. On his day he was absolutely unplayable. So much skill but his temperament was abysmal. Spent at least 10 minutes per game swearing at the linesman!
I think his brother Rod is still a masseur at United

I remember a few years back, Man U signed some kid, mainly on the back of a YouTube video, where he was just tearing everyone apart. Think he might've been Australian?
I'm guessing he's still too young, but anyone know how he's progressing?

Rhain Davis
not sure if he's still currently on the books but he did play for United in an under 14 tournament in Italy in summer of 2011.
