WUM filter, good or bad? - you decide.

Joking apart, I think in the end the wum filter will be a negative, because all you'll ever see is the viewpoint of people that follow your team, rather than a cross section.

It very much seems like the start of a mentality that may include 'I will hide behind the filter if I don't agree with what you are saying about my team.'

Granted the 'banter' may well be strong at times but that's life, no different from being at the game - what do you do there? Wear a set of noise cancelling headphones because you don't want to hear the opposition fans? Or just get on with it.....

Filter is good! For me it's not about the difference of opinion as i welcome them all. BUT....

I filter any user with screen name over 2 lines (and thats me being generous). I dont care about whatever they have to say as i dont think 12-year olds should be allowed on this forum.

I haven't actually used the filter but it seems to me there have been slightly fewer stupid posts since it was brought in.

I take issue with the OP's assumption that the result of the filter would be people only reading things they agree with. Many of us enjoy respectful discussions with people holding different views and with supporters of different teams. We can also enjoy banter without indulging in low-IQ insults. And everyone has seen threads with the potential to be very good destroyed by a couple of people introducing the latter and others taking the bait.

I for one am very glad that the Administrators are taking steps to protect the quality of the debate. All anti-wumming measures (including bans) should be applauded.
