JD is simply on fire.

lets hope he stays fit. with ade back now we have real options even with bale injured.

play dempsey out left like how he played for fulham, and play ade in behind jd

Whatever he said to Sigs today was more impressive - his best game for us since preseason.

Defoe seems to play on confidence.
Hard to be that kind of player when the likes of Arry stop-start your selection.

Even though we think that Adebayor is the better all-round striker, Defoe is there on merit. When Ade is back again, then we'll see how AVB manages Defoe.

These last two seasons he seems to have gained this new hunger for playing and for scoring goals.

Last season he came back from a summer training camp after a disastrous previous season and looked very sharp and was clearly frustrated at his lack of playing time under Harry. Its a real credit to him that at this later stage of his career he's been able to find and maintain this new inner drive and I really think this is why he has been so successful. The intensity and even the ferocity he's played with this season at times has been amazing.

He's also completely won me over, I never used to think he was good enough for Spurs, but even though he has his deficiencies as a player (i.e. his selfish nature, lack of creativity, his fondness for drifting offside etc) his attitude this year (which I really hope he can maintain) has made him one of my favourite players at the club.

Defoe

I don't understand this thread...

All he has done different to Redknapp is NOT drop him when he has played well and scored.

He looked on fire (and inspired) for me last season too...but if you don't play you can't show it.

At the same time Ade offers us much more as a team player I think...miles more. A couple of good crossing positions today and JD couldn't do sweet fa with them (am I being harsh there - I think I maybe because overall Bale and Lennon didn't either?)

Basically, Defoe is praised when he scores a goal or two, and is slated when he doesn't, because he doesn't do much else other than score.

I don't think AVB should really be praised either, Defoe was his only available striker at the beginning of the year, he did well so he naturally kept his place.

Ade does offer more as a team player and should be playing but at the expense of Dempsey with the two rotating.

Defoe's got to be played, yes he was non-existent for the first half today, but when the opportunity arose he took his chances clinically (something Ade is not great at) and bagged us two goals and so winning us a difficult game comfortably.

There will be games where he will do relatively little (i.e. liverpool on wednesday) but more other than not nowadays he does take his chances extremely well and scores goals
