Does he even have the effin desire to score? I love the guy's all round play but does he ever make a gamble in the penalty area?

Sorry, Baz, I don't agree.
What we need are a range of options & a quality striker will cost. I think Sammon would work well in a partnership, maybe with Jamie Ward.
Who do you think we could have bought for £1.2m? You also have to take into account wages. Sure, Le Fondre, but you need someone who can hit the ground running, not someone who is used sparingly.
I think it's unfair to pick out/highlight Sammon as seems to be the case everytime we lose. It was defensive errors that cost us today, esp for the second. OK, I understand that we need to score more away, but we've now lost to the current first & third placed sides. As for Brighton, they have more money, some more talented players but suffered a three nil reverse against Palace, (albeit down to ten after less than ten minutes). It is the nature of this league.
Unfortunately, Sammon divides opinion. I accept that. I don't think though he is the regular scorer people thought we were buying. We were rather buying a physical presence who can bring others into play.
As for wastes of money, add Claude to that mix. Shocking.

Your starting to look silly now Baz, fairly kept stump when he scored a few, but as soon as you get any sniff that someone will back you up your in like shot, very poor.
You do realise your back up is peni

I like him, but i just want him to gamble in the box. Maybe fling himself across for a header. I just feel this could improve his game. I think he is howardesque

Bob, eloquent as ever, and I agree about Claude Davis (forgot him ).
I sit in the North Stand, in the middle and get a great view up and down the pitch. I am intrigued by Sammon and often moan about him to others around me, which is frustrating for all. When I first watched him play I thought he was 5hit, and you know what they say about first impressions...
I watch him for large parts of the game in particular, as I say, I have a good vantage point to watch forward's movements. His movements are awful. Truly.
He goes sideways - crablike - never with any real purpose, intent, or genuine desire to WANT the ball. If he does get it, he has no vision, awareness, pace, composure, a poor first touch, and isn't a natural finisher.
Yes he has a 'physical presence', but that doesn't win games, goals do. He scores very few, end of. Also he wins VERY FEW headers for such a man of his stature.
All in all, he IS 5hit, and wouldn't look out of place playing for Belper Town. I think he would struggle for them also

Igor, we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Football is a game of opinions, and we are all entitled to one. I don't need anyone to tell me (peni or whoever) who can or can't play football

Just seems your like a dog with a bone picking on just one player at any given moment unless of course he's had a good November.
Last time I checked its an 11 man team.

Not at all Igor, I have no particular vengeance for Sammon, I just haven't posted much of late, generally. I will sing players praises, and vice-versa, as I see fit. As previously mentioned, it's a game of opinions. I hope he scores a goal-a-game for the rest of the season and pushes us in to the play-offs. Sadly, I KNOW there's more chance of me (or you) being the next Ryder Cup captain

Baz
I know about first impressions, the first time I saw Pembridge, my heart sank. He wasn't bad for us, but I just thought 'He's no George Williams'. Sometimes you can make a snap judgement, but a player changes your mind (Chris Powell).
I saw a good post on another site (dcfcmad) that said Sammon's workrate probably helps the other strikers goal strike rate so that the goals are shared around the team rather than us being dependent on a single striker (as with Hulse).
I don't think it's helped that Jamie Ward has been out as they might work as a pairing.
I did notice Sammon's touch is heavy, but he took his goals well against Birmingham. I think he is an unselfish player, but I don't see him as the reason why we struggle. I think it's down to the team's youth & overall inexperience.

He is never in that G-stop to get one of jacobs crosses. He just seems content with putting Cb's under pressure. The run he made vs brum where tyson scored, THATS WHAT I WANT MORE OFF

He was in the box plenty, but he's easy to mark when he's the only Ram running in, which also makes him harder to pick out.
Watch the game again and you'll see it. The only times he isn't is if he's the mush who laid the ball off as it's then arriving in the box before Usain Bolt could.
