R.I.P. Doug Smith

Rest in peace Dougie Smith, I can remember him well, one of the gentlemen of football.

I hope he gets a fitting farewell from the Arabs behind that goal on Sunday. Are you going to the game barab?

RIP to Doug.

Took the time to go on the net and search for more info on the man given that he was before my time. From all the tributes you get the impression that not only was he a terrific servant to the club but he was a gentleman as well. A sad loss.

He sure was, i can remember in the early 70s when we played Newcastle at St James park, as i was getting off the bus Doug Smith and Jackie Copeland came over to the bus and handed me a bunch of tickets for the main stand, enough for all of us on the bus.
It was an early kick off (1pm I think) there were no night games because of the power cuts, we lost the game after extra time. Nice memory of the big man though.

R.I.P. Doug Smith, I only really know of him through what was said about him in the centenary DVD, but it seems the man was a total legend. Never being booked in over 600 games in quite remarkable when you think about it. Thoughts go out to his family

Tributes well deserved by one of the game's gentlemen.

A United legend who I am sure will be remembered and also well thought of by the fans of many other clubs.

Astonishing playing record that will probably never be matched.

Rest in peace Doug
