We have all now arrived back home in sunny Leicestetshire.
I've slept and now time for the update !
Continuing on from last Friday, when we were invited to watch my new friends Katy and Mel play in their football tournament!
we arrived in the town of bleiborg in Southern Austria, their team FC Kommel they won the first game 1-0 with Mel missing a sitter, and was dropped for the 2nd game, when they lost 1-0. Mel reinstated for the final group game hit the opener, a thunderous shot into the top corner, and then get her second, clipping the ball over the on rushing keeper! Kommel went on to win 3-0 to reach the quarter finals
They drew this 0-0, and it went to penalties, both teams got 2 out of 3, but Kommel won it 3-2.
(for those who know me, pictures and video's will appear on my facebook in the next day or two)
unfortunately we then had to leave Bleiborg to head up to St Viets for the Valencia game, as the girls team were preparing for the semi finals with a beer or two!
we all said that we are a little disappointed not to see this tournament through, but we travelled to Austria to watch the City and thats what we didI have not yet managed to find out how the girls did.
so on to St Viets, we rushed down the autobahn in pouring rain and got the Jacques-Lemans arena, just before kick off. we saw a very good City performance against avery impressive outfit. Valencia were knocking the ball around for fun, Valencia only scored when sol Bamba slipped in the very wet conditions, allowing the forward to cross for another forward to side foot home at the far post! We did not look out of place at all, we played our part, and could have snatched a late equaliser, when Steve howard beat the on rushing keeper to a long punt from Kasper Schmeichel, howard lobbed the keeper but the ball bounced just the wrong side of the post! Matt Mills looked every bit the record signing that he is, and never stopped bellowing out instructions and encouragement to his team mates, neither did Kasper Schmeichel. and I feel that along with Sean St.Leger and lee Peltier and Paul Konchesky, we have a solid defence that will not concede many goals this season! lets not forget sol Bamba and Aleksander Tunchev, john Pantsil and Michael Ball.
On the evidence of what we have seen this week in austria, I feel we can win this league
so a 1-0 defeat, not a bad effort, we played well and had our moments, there were around 50-60 City fans there, had a nice chat with Top, during the game. and chatted to some of the players after the game.
we left there after the game and headed back up through Germany, Luxembourg and Belguim.
We arrived at Dunkerque around 2 pm and chatted to some Sunderland fans returning from the German pre season tour!
Final note on the tour.
we arrived in Dunkerque and the guy checking our passports said to us, 'have you been on a pre season tour?' we said yes, 'how did you get on he asked?' . I told him we drew 0-0 and lost 0-1. He remarked, 'Thats not very good is it. I thought you lot were going to be the front runners!'
when I told him we had just lost to Valencia, you should have seen his face! he was impressed that we only lost 0-1, and told us that he was a Leeds fan! haha! thats wee'd on his bonfire
!
all in all, we drove for almost 2400 miles, made some good friends, seen 2 games, paying only 10 euro's for each game, and had a week in austria camping by a beautiful lake. it cost us around £600, for diesel, ferry and the campsite, thats for the 5 of us.
Was i worth it! ......................... YES and I would do it again definitely!
see you all at the Ricoh.
