I am a little confused as to what is Carrick's role in our midfield.
Many say he is a defensive midfielder, many say he is a deep lying playmaker, others say he is a box to box midfielder.
Now the person that confuses me the most is Fergie. On one hand he has previously said that he hasn't played with a defensive midfielder (DM) at United.
On the other hand last season when I think Carrick scored against QPR I think, he said in the interview that he was surprised that Carrick crossed the halfway line and that he would have a word with him afterwards.
This clearly suggests that Carrick is under orders not to venture past the halfway line.
So can anyone tell me what is his role in our midfield? As far as my knowledge goes a defensive midfielder eg, Makalele, De Jong rarely/never cross the halfway line while on the other hand Carrick isnt a defensive midfielder according to the boss.
Remove my doubts.

BB SAF said that he could be on the bench at best, we will probably see him and Vidic back for the Sunderland game imo.

Little width I know, but we aren't going to outplay City with players available, may as well back the midfield to steady our defence.

How is Valencia?
For me playing both Carrick and Fletcher is a waste, with Fletcher's new role they seem to occupy the same space yet offer us nothing extra than just having Carrick. I really haven't seen anything what so ever to suggest Fletcher should be starting for us in games, the attributes that made him a good player a few seasons back have gone.
I think a midfield of Jones and Carrick with support from Rooney should be enough.

Valencia has really disappointed me this season, wouldn't mind seeing Young in there following last weeks performance, I just think we could do with packing the middle following our performance at Wastelands last season.

I think there is a lack of creativity there. It all hinges on Rooney having a blinder or we simply wouldn't create anything.

We've been scoring from corners a lot, and City have been defending them badly. I just think we need to cover the midfield for obvious reasons, perhaps put young in for Fletch? We will see I guess
