With his loan spell coming to an end in a couple of weeks, I'd like to know your views on him. I rated him earlier in his career but have to admit that I was surprised when I learned that we were going to get him on loan when he hadn't been playing regularly for 4 years. And I'm happy to see that he's been playing quite well recently. Not a left-sided midfielder needs to be playing down the middle.... where he's been playing in last couple of games. Now, I'd like to know what you guys think we should do in January, his contract with Stoke expiring in June unless I'm mistaken.
1. Extend his loan til end of season
2. Buy him on 2-year deal
3. Done well, thank you very much but need someone else now
I'd go for one of the first 2 options. Earned a deal to stay until end of season IMO
Michael Tonge

Send him back to Stoke in January after the loan spell is over, we can do better.

from sky sports
" Michael Tonge's loan from Stoke set to expire on December 22, Warnock is hopeful Austin can help cover his absence until the Potters man can be re-signed on January 1."
so it looks like NW might have plans for Tonge anyway .

He's settled into the team now, it may take a new player longer to do that, or he may not at all. Extend to a season.

how about extending his loan until the end of the season, then sign him on a two year deal to then tell him he's surplus to requirements and that he isn't needed, seems what we have done with some other players

If we get promotion he's definitely not needed.

For me personally, I think Tonge has done more than enough to earn a season long loan at least. Even though his performances at first wern't the most impressive he was never the less still scoring. He has also improved brilliantly in the past 3 games and was arguably man of the match vs Huddersfield. For me he adds more of an attacking threat from central midfield that Brown and Austin don't. And if we keep on winning I do not want to see us change a winning team!
