I agree Sinfield is everything in this article.....but from an outsiders point of view I feel to many sports people are given the Knighthood and the significance of such an honour is some what lost in amongst the vast numbers.

I don't generally agree with the Honours system at all. It reeks of old Empire, and could be seen as elitist as well, especially since a lot of politicians & rich businessmen seem to be bestowed with higher awards like a knighthood for basically doing their job - but having the cash & influence to grease the wheels, so to speak.
On the flip side of the coin, if we are going to retain an Honours system, then why should Sinfield get at least an MBE? He has captained his country with distinction; afterall, didn't the England Cricket team all recieve an MBE each for winning the 2005 Ashes against Australia?
But of course League isn't very fashionable in the South East of England; and neither is it followed by a sizable (read wealthy), middle class audience; and neither does it attract the big corporations flashing their cash on Finals Day.
So trying to get someone like Sinfield honoured will be like trying to turn boy-band "One Direction" into a philharmonic orchestra!
And what is even more shocking is that his own Code have still to make him "Man of Steel". So what chance of a real honour!?
