i don't know why i expected better from a programme which is hideously biased against united at the best of times, but their 'highlights' of yesterday's game really did plunge new depths.
they decided not to bother showing the stonewall penalty that evra was denied with the score at 2-1, and despite a five minute montage on tevez, his assault on jones in stoppage time was also not deemed to be worthwhile showing.
meanwhile, young's perfectly legitimate goal (which denied united an opportunity to rack up a cricket score) was merely written off as "tight". also omitted was balotelli's unpunished lunge on evans in the opening ten minutes, as well as all three hundred of yaya tourré's fouls and his numerous dives.
what annoys me is that had united benefited from even half of these calls, the media (match of the day in particular) would be demanding the game be replayed. and can you imagine if rooney had kicked out like tevez did? the fa would have already docked us points.
united beat twelve men yesterday, it's just a shame that the media refuse to give us credit for such a feat.

Tevez, clearly frustrated, kicked out at jones after he tackled him and should have had a second yellow minimum.
Fair play to the ref though, the atmosphere was already spilling over so he probably didnt want to inflame an already volatile situation. No way he didn't see it, that's for certain.

Though quite why Fergie and half the United team felt it their duty to get straight in the refs face is beyond me. Nothing worse than players and managers trying to influence a ref. I know it isn't just United that do it as Mancini has form, but I'm just saying.
Wouldn't happen in rugby.

"So you don't understand why a phrase that implies that united benefit from unfair amounts of injury time in comparison to other teams is an insult? Funnily enough, the team who consistently play out more injury time and score more injury time goals than any other, year after year, is arsenal! Wenger time?"
Because Arsenal have a winning mentality and never say die attitude.

If anything the media is pro-United. I think most neutrals would agree.

That's because most neutrals are ABUs who only watch United on MOTD with its ridiculously selective coverage.
The article is spot on and this issue is nothing new. I've been saying it for at least 10 years. And I've met very few people that I would describe as having "neutral" feelings towards United. The vast majority of non-United fans that I have met in my life hate United at least to some extent.

I think MOTD is actually pretty fair. They have to pack a lot into a relatively short programme – they can't show, or talk about, every incident.
Considering the MOTD studio is populated by Liverpool players, fans and Alan Shearer, I really think they just call things as they see them.

but the point is that they always find plenty of time to talk about every incident if it goes in United's favour. It's not the lack of incidents that is the problem, it is how selective they are about what they focus on that is the problem. It's irrelevant how the scouse pundits 'call' an incident - they don't even get the chance if the incident isn't shown in the first place.

I'm pretty sure they said the major decisions went against Utd yesterday (the disallowed goal and the Evra penalty appeal). I don't think they have an agenda.

It may not be a conscious agenda but there is no doubt in my mind that a much bigger deal would have been made of those decisions if they had gone in our favour.

PS That's why those decisions live longer in the memory of non-United fans and that is how the ABU gets the idea that refs always favour United.
