Carlisle friendly

I'm concerned about the defense more because I think better centre-backs are needed than because of any friendly performance.

I just don't think you can read anything into friendlies. They are used to experiment and explore scenarios with the full appreciation that winning is not everything. They get players back to match-fitness and allow them and the coaches to learn a few things. Other than that...?

I went on Saturday and they didn't look particularly interested in the game. First half all we seemed bothered about was passing the ball whereas every time Carlisle got possession they were looking to put the ball in the net fair play to them. Billy got clattered early on and that seemed to make him wary and the ref gave us nothing


It was a pretty boring, typical practice game on our side. But on the plus it was nice to see Sean McDaid again, he came into the away stand 2nd half and got a standing ovation from the Rovers fans (shame there wasn't more of them)

I get the impression our team only turned up because it was our benefit game and with Carlisle so up for it weren't going to risk injuries

Hope we put more into the Blades game tonight

As per my previous posts I'm also concerned about the defence generally and in particular the centre half situation. It just occurred to me that given the actual team we played in the first half we maybe should have expected more, generally. But as I said, I know it was only a friendly....
