With Gerrard and Carragher in their last years of being able to play at the top level, I was wondering who should be the next future captain of the reds?
For me it should be given to Daniel Agger. He has been a loyal servant at the club, is one of our best players, is entering the peak of his career and is a perfect role model on and off the pitch. Another choice could be Pepe, but like many I don't favour the choice of a keeper as captain. Suarez was the captain of Ajax before coming here, but I feel his incidents on and off the pitch mean he doesn't fit the role.
Other players could be Johnson, Lucas and maybe someone like Kelly if he goes on to become a key player for us.
What do you guys think?

Agger then Reina would be my choice.
probably help to keep hold of both of them as well.

I don't think we really need help keeping Agger - after our awful finish last season, the champions were interested in him and rather than agitate for a move, he got YNWA tattooed on his knuckles and signed a new contract.
I also don't think anybody whose medium- to long-term future is in question should be considered. It doesn't make them stay, it causes instability and eventually just makes the club look weaker if they do leave. Arsenal's last four captains have all left, and some of them seemed to have been made captain in an attempt to keep them.

I think it will go to Simao when he finally gets here.

good point Dr,
not that worried about Agger to be honest, you don,t get YNWA tattooed on your knuckles for nothing and turn down(assume he did or it didn't get that far anyway) going to the Champions who would have thrown money at him.
don't know why but always worry about Reina, know i shouldn't but something worries me there, hope i am wrong.
about the Arsenal thing, well to be fair, Nasri went to City who ended up Champions(although personally i think his game has gone carp),Fabregas went home to Barca(most players want to go if they could) and RVP to utd.
cant think of another, was it Song? (spelling)

I think Henry and Vieira were both made captains whilst there was speculation about their futures, were they? I remember thinking it was a bad move by Wenger to make Van Persie captain in particular; to lose Fabregas and then make another verging-on-wantaway player your captain was really poor.
I think Reina loves the club, but yeah I think he's more likely to leave than Agger or Lucas.

Did someone suggest building the team around Lucas

Anyone but Lucas. Fantastic player, a Red to the bone, we've missed him when injured. And that's the reason. Too injury-prone for me, otherwise automatic first choice. JimmyTheRed

Agger and Lucas for me. Never like a keeper to be Captain.

To be fair he has had two injuries and it's not unusual to pull a thigh or hammy after being out so long. He has played a lot of football for his age though.

Its pretty obvious that the captain is and always will be Igor Biscan. He projects his thoughts through whoever is wearing the armband.
