One of the very best United players of the Ferguson era.

For me his best form was in the latter stages of the 2002-2003 season ... absolutely phenomenal stuff.

Whether he retires this season or plays on for a while, we really need a player of his style and calibre.

I think he was at his best between 98-00 but 03 was great aswell. He scored more but his overall play werent as good.

Fair play. 98-99 was the first season we had Scholes and Keane as a long-term partnership and the football we played was sublime. Scholes did seem to lose form in 2001, even before the Veron signing which many felt knocked him out of position.

But I just remember those closing weeks of the 03 season. The hat-trick at Newcastle, the header at Spurs ... Scholes and Ruud seemed as if they were on a two-man mission to get the trophy back that year!

Great great player but another season of mediocrity could hurt his reputation.

Like they say, quit when you're still at the top (well hes not quite at the top but you know what I mean)
