Food for thought

As an old timer approachng my 54th birthday I can look back to 1964 when I first started following Liverpool. So, in all honesty, I think it would be fair to say that I have seen the very best of Liverpool FC.

Now, here's my point. Through all the good times we had Hunt & St. John; Keegan & Toshack; Rush & Dalglish even Owen & Heskey. Now we have Suarez & Nobody. I know Brendan likes to play 4-3-3 but what is the point of having two wingers crossing the ball to a vertically challenged centre forward. The opposing centre backs must be laughing their socks off. Twentythree goals in seventeen games pretty much proves the point that this is more than just my opinion, but is actually a fact.

The stats show that we have the lion's share of the possession in almost every game. Yesterday was a perfect example. But what is the point of having a massive 61% of the possession if all we can muster is a late consolation goal against a team below us in the table? Ten goals in nine home games is just not good enough for Liverpool FC.

I know a lot of people are going to quote the "we are a work in progress" mantra, which I will not deny. I am also not for changing managers and would like to see Brendan in charge for many years to come. However, I would love us to find a (taller) striking partner for Suarez to ensure that we always have at least two bodies in the box when the likes of Sterling, Johnson, Downing and Enrique beat their man and look up to cross the ball.

Discuss.

4-3-3 will work, we just needs better widemen.
We lack players with the ability to find the pass in the final third.

It also would help if Gerrard showed up abit more often.

Agreed. Rushie was not huge but he was the most feared presence in the box and alongside Kenny they were just about unstoppable. Yes, Suarez & Torres would be an improvement on Suarez & Nobody.

I'm a firm believer in 2 top strikers.

We have one striker and a support cast who all seem to huddle in the centre circle - Sterling aside

Yes Lucas, we do need our midfielders like Gerrard to get in the box as much as possible. For me, Shelvey would start every game because I think he could contribute at least10 goals a season.

But I don't see how having better widemen is going to make that much diference if there is nobody in the middle. I hate to say it but look at Man Utd with RVP and Rooney in the middle. They have already scored 20 goals more than us.

We need a powerful, mobile striker to put some fear into the centre halls!

Benteke was superb at that yesterday!

I think it will work but we need quality to replace:

Gerrard
Downing
Cole

we need to move Suarez to his natural position out wide and buy a proper centreforward

If you notice we very rarely cross the ball - we more pass into the centre. It's aimed at the player and never aimed in high for the player to attack. Always low.

Apart from Gerrard who always crosses high.
