Fulham.

I'd like to see the following team given a go:

GK: Reina

LB: Robinson
CB: Agger
CB: Skrtel
RB: Johnson

DM: Lucas
CM: Henderson
AM: Suso

LWF: Enrique
CF: Suarez
RWF: Assaidi

I realise it's a bit of an overhaul, and it's unlikely to happen, but here are my reasons. Three quarters of our defence picks itself, although I've gone for Robinson at left back, partly because I think he's hugely promising and partly because it frees up Enrique to go further forward. You could throw Downing in, but then again Robinson is a talented left back who needs games, whereas Downing is a left winger who has been told he can leave the club; give Robinson the game time.

Our midfield needs freshening up. It's the one area where we have numbers in reserve, yet Allen and Gerrard seem to be automatic starters despite some very erratic form. In the team I've gone for above, Lucas is in his usual role in front of the defence, with Suso the most advanced of the three, nearly playing as second striker. Henderson is rewarded for some impressive and authoritative showings with a start in central midfield, combining defensive help for Lucas with energetic support for the forward line.

I fully believe that Suso is our most impressive player in terms of being able to pierce well drilled defences by picking up spaces in front of them and weighing passes through them, and Henderson paired with Lucas behind him is one of the most solid bases we could offer to give him that freedom. Gerrard and Allen need to be rested anyway.

Up front, Sterling is another who could do with a rest. I'd put Assaidi on the right, because whilst he's tricky and can run at people, I also think he's comfortable getting the ball in slightly deeper areas and could dovetail nicely with Johnson coming forward. On the left, playing Enrique in the forward line hardly sounds ideal, but as Buck would say, that's where we're at. He has played well there, though; for someone who took to lumping crosses in from 35 yards out last season, he has surprised me with some of his invention in the final third at LWF. He has a great engine and will think nothing of tracking back 60 yards to help Robinson whilst also busting a gut to get into goalscoring positions when the ball is on the right.

Suarez, with Suso having a dedicated remit to play in an advanced role, wouldn't have to drop so deep and could concentrate on lateral movement and darts in behind the defence. I think the potential for combination play in the team above is very high, all of the players in the front line as well as Suso are capable of clever one-twos and there is enough movement and craft there to seriously test defenders, especially with Johnson and even Henderson joining in from deep.

I don't think this will happen, though. We all want results to be better, but in general terms I'm happy with the direction Rodgers is taking us. The only real bugbears I have at the moment are Gerrard and Allen's apparent invincibility to being dropped despite other options being available and - goal against WHU notwithstanding - Joe Cole's relatively advanced position in the pecking order. I can't see BR suddenly changing his habits and picking a team close to what I've named there, but I'd like him to. I think the team above could be dangerous, and if things aren't going well then hey, we've got players like Gerrard, Allen and Sterling who can come on and affect the game.

I'd also like to see Yesil or Morgan on the bench, yes they're young but we needed another attacking option off the bench on Saturday and didn't have it!

Yeah I agree. I thought Gerrard Allen and Sterling should have been dropped for the Villa game and rested. It didn't happen.

I'd go:-

Reina
Johnson
Skrtel
Agger
Enrique
Lucas
Henderson
Shelvey
Suso
Suarez
Sterling
