This Weekend has thrown up a big game in the form of Crystal Palace v Huddersfield Town. It's such a big game that Sky tv decided, in their wisdom, to screen it live and spoil what could have been a trip to London, as the K.O is now 17:20.
Small snippetts on Palace
Here we are then:
1) Crystal Palace FC were formed in either 1905 or 1861, depending on who you ask.
2) They play their home matches at Selhurst Park, a horrible ‘old school’ ground with a decent capacity of 26,309
3) Their nicknames are the imaginative “Palace" and also “Eagles". Why Eagles, you ask..? I dunno.
4) Ian Holloway is now the Manager of this fine club. Can only be described being as mad as a Mexican's Dog
5) Palace have been in administration twice: the first resulted in Simon Jordan taking over the club, losing all his money and then putting the club back into administration. This is not the first time a Jordan has failed Palace; his dad was registered there as a player but never played, and Simon himself was rejected by them as a schoolboy.
form
What form??? Town are in a terrible run of form of late with our last victory coming on 10th Nov away to our Neighbours over the border in Barnsley.
Palace on the other hand are flying high in't Championship and are expecting to us to roll over and have our bellies tickled this weekend.
who to watch
Wilfred Zaha
Who else. This kid is quality and is attracting interest from a few of the so-called big boys, with a price tag of £15m.............. £15m for a Championship Player seems a little steep, but he already attracted the attention of Roy Hodgson who now mangages our great nation.
how to get there
1, Be at home for approx 17:00
2, Turn TV on
3, Hit ch 402 or 518 if you buy Virgin
4, Sit back with alcohol in hand and enjoy the action.
5, Alternatively you can go to a local pub with Sky and watch it there.
Those who are making the trip have my full respect, as this was one game I planned to attend myself untill Sky intervened.

smithies punched a greasy ball out of the box..we failed to follow it out, thats all..
if he gets a punch to every cross thats comes into the box for the rest of the season and he clears the box, itll do for me..
defending is about everyone doing a job..
the wrong decision was made after the punch, not to all get out after it..
clear the ball, clear the box everytime...do the simple things right..
into the stands when required, into feet or space if you have time.. we make the wrong decisions too often.. simple, keep it simple..

Yeah, clever comeback
Norwood was probably as shocked as me that the ball got to him in that area. He was probably, like me, still busy shouting "catch the f-cking thing for gods sake" when he was dispossessed.

Greasy ball......coming at chest height.....I'd catch it. I'd at least attempt to if someone was paying me a few grand a week to do so.
Punch a ball in that situation then 9/10 it will be picked up by the attacking side as most of the defending team are in the area. It just invites pressure.
I can't believe we're now allowing goalkeepers the excuse that the ball is slippy in the rain. Rugby players don't complain and they don't wear gloves with in-built grips.

champers..most of "our defending" team is back in the box..certainly is not true of most teams i have watched this season..
we didnt get out, we didnt make it hard enough to get to a point blank range shot.. im not getting hung up on what people think are "individual" errors..we cleared the box and shifted up the pitch for 40 mins, we then stayed in after a clearance and got done, thats it... if we can knock that out of our game we will give ourselves a chance..
clark staying in too long and too deep wasnt just his fault, we have a manager and coaching staff and ten other players who should all be sorting it..
keep the opposition as far away from goal as you can for as long as you can..simple advice and not brain surgery to try and do it, just takes co ordination and a better work rate than we have sometimes..

Smithies aint a bad keeper, Great shot stopper, Not great at claiming crosses, Not great at organising the defence, But he is improving,,, He will get better,, I would stick with the current tactic, I agree with Larrys current take on how to improve Smithies,, Punch it, punch it, punch it,,,, If anybody who made a naff up is to blame for Palaces "good" goal,, It has to be Norwood,,, wtf, Loses the ball in a challenge he never makes and does nigh on a 360 through mid flight,, Norwood was soft, sheet out, And went through the air like a ballerina,, Quite pathetic really,, Just cant imagine this lad (for all his talent) busting a gut last season to help keep Cov up,, Bit of Fire in the belly for the lad this new year will not go amiss.

I'm not absolving Norwood of blame, I just don't think he should have been put into that position in the first place.
From the moment Smithies punched it I was shouting at the TV (like a sane person does.....) right up until the moment Zaha hit the ball into the roof of the net.
I don't like keepers punching the ball, it's a foreign thing. I notice Joe Hart has the habit too. You never saw the likes of Banks & Clemence refusing to take on the catch.

Never mind the punch, what was Smithies doing with Zaha's shot? It was hit hard but beat him at the near post and he showed no reaction to the shot at all.
Still, at least he didn't let a tame shot through him to cost his team points! Oh wait that was the Leeds game.
Too many errors, too frequently for my liking

We need a new keeper, Bennett is too old, that is one of Grayson's priorities come January!

If it hadn't been for Smithies penalty saving abilities at Wembley, we would have still have been in League One - so stop your f-cking moaning.
