FOOTBALL IS SICK

Today is a very sad day for me to hear that Sean was sacked by Forest having beaten the Sewer Rats 4-2. He just never deserved to be treated like that. I hope they get what they deserve another year in the Championship.

There could be a Benitez and chelsea fall out sequel occurring next at forest with Mcleish!

Sad day for Forest.

The Forest owners told a number of porkies when they took over at Forest e.g. "this will be our consolidation season and we will build for the future", really!!!!

Sean wasn't happy with the Forest team performance but 1 point off the play off's is not a total disaster at this stage of the season is it?
You are right the owners want success guaranteed now and they will find out you can spend a fortune and still not get success.

If you are suggesting that the change that followed Sean's sacking was worth trying I certainly don't agree it proved to be a total disaster and a joke.

Take it from me Sean will not in any circumstances be coming back to Donny, that bridge is burned

When it comes to people wanting Deano sacked and replaced by Sean its absolutely stupid and is part of what is sick in football, no one is bomb proof.

I did note a clever move by Deano when he said on RP that he only wanted to be involved with a club interested in promotion and shortly after that follows a statement by the Board that he will get their financial backing in January, clever boy Deano.

Mcleish, or SOD, only one winner there, and Forest can kiss goodbye to any ideas of getting in the play offs. Just watching Sky Sports News, it said he will be getting a large amount of funds to spend in January. Well there guna need it cos McLeish will not be anywhere near as good as SOD is/was/will be . I believe SOD was chucked out for the simple reason, he's not one to shout his mouth off ( Warnock ) and get Forest onto the back pages. He lets his players do the talking, and if he'd of been left alone they could of got into the play offs. Now I'll bet he's not there come end of season.

It would be interesting to discover whether those whose money has been derived from genuine business acumen treat their managers more fairly than those who either happen to inherit valuable natural resources or to acquire their money simply by good fortune. You would expect it. But do those with business acumen normally invest in a football club?

So if you are a football manager, worse still with a PL or npC club, there is a much stronger than average likelihood that you will have to work for someone who can by no stretch of the imagination be described as a good employer.

We cannot and will never make sense of it and sadly Sean is the sort of individual that the more ruthless, insensitive owners will feel they can push around more than most.

Should we be surprised? Will we be surprised if SOD is replaced by a big name manager? Will we surprised if the big name spends lots of money on big name players and they finish up in the bottom half of the table? It will serve them right.

And hopefully SOD will get a job with a club where he is appreciated. He could be in the right place at the right time for his first love where he might just be able to even show that modern essential attribute, “passion”. Though he never seemed quite able to call us “Rovers”, I imagine that he would not have the same inhibition for “The Wolves”.

I had to laugh when i looked on 606 this morning.
On another thread it has been posted that SoD had a threadbare squad to work with.
WTF?
Just go on to their official website and look at the player list.
Now if that is threadbare......................
No-one knows whether SoD would have got Forest promoted and now it can never be proven either way.
In much the same way, was it right to sack him from his Rovers job?
The league table this year would suggest so but who knows?
With the exception of Ferguson at Man Utd all managers get the bullet sooner or later and some in incredible circumstances - look at how Grayson was treated last season at Leeds when they were in a similar situation to what Forest are in now.
Did Warnock do any better?
There are of course many examples of a change of manager changing the fortunes of the club and them going on to improve the clubs situation and if McLeish gets Forest promoted will people on here eat their words or more likely say it was SoDs team anyway.
By the way, didnt SoD walk out on Crawley at the start of the season?
NY - to pick up on a point you made earlier - yes, footballers do have a short shelf life relatively speaking but in general they earn more in that time than most ordinary folk earn in 50 years of working life.
Some of them go on to making money from media work afterwards and not all of them are megga stars either.
People like my pal Derek Parker (ex Barnsley) make a good living from their after football lives.
At the end of the day winning is the be all and and all in football and the foreign club owners demand it straight away.
The fans are delighted when these investors come in and bankroll their clubs so can they grumble when the same owners make decisions like the SoD one.
After all, they are the owners of the club and can do what they want.
Other, more high profile managers than SoD have suffered the same fate and it will continue to happen.
I am glad that our club is run by responsible people who have the interests of the club at heart rather than some oil billionaire who treats it as a toy.

Just one observation Donaldo, Sean was never a push over when it came to football matters. I have it on good authority that Bramall and Watson thought him stubborn and unable to get him to budge hence their refusal to put more money in to the club leading to Sean being pushed in to a corner.

I totally agree that Sean couldn't talk the talk. I would have liked to have seen him form a partnership like the Cloughie and Taylor one taking the pressure off him.

I am sure even Sean's strongest critics wish him well and that he gets what he deserves in the end.

Hound,
It was threadbare when it came to replace key players that were injured, ring any bells?
If you believed the owners views when they took over at Forest this was a “consolidation season” not a promotion at all cost season!

The new manager(AM) will use bad results as an excuse and get his own players in. That's just the way the system works wherever you are. Personally I was convinced Sean would get a top six position if not automatic promotion this season.

Sean made it clear that if a big club came in for him at Crawley he would have the right to talk to them, nothing deceitful there then. I think you will find that is a standard clause in contracts now. He learnt that move from his experience at Donny, 100% loyalty is foolish. If a better move comes up and it suits you, you move on, that's football.

Deano also made a good move in my book when he said on RP that he only wanted to be involved with a promotion club, low and behold the Board came out days later and said they would be giving him more financial backing, clever boy.

The owners of Forest steer the ship because they own it but will this prove to be the Titanic? Its going to be interesting to see. The supporters don't seem to be very happy with AM do they. Three wins on the trot will change that though.

When it comes to the management of our club I foresee a very difficult stagnation period coming up. With the income we can generate can we hold a position in the Championship? And I think that is where sensible financial management will lead us as a yo-yo club. The money men on our Board are not silly emotional supporters like most of us that’s why they have the money they have. I would love to see another play off final but that’s where the dream ends for me.

Alex - with respect - i have read quite a few posts on the Forest board and in general they say that they feel SoD was out of his depth and that McLeish's record in their division is good and that they think he can push them on to promotion.

It is interesting to see you suggest that three wins in a row will get the fans behind him as so far this season the best that Foredt have managed to achieve is two wins in a row.
That is much the same as we managed for most of the time we were in the Championship and their group of players is far better than we ever had.

If AM gets Forest promoted i would expect him to be sacked as the new owners would then want a manager with a proven record of keeping clubs in the PL.

As for the Rovers becoming a yo-yo club, well that would be ok for me right now rather than stagnating in our current division, at least we would get a good season of wins now and again.
Other clubs have done this between the Championship and the PL and eventually found the formula to stay up, the money helps as it would if we went between the Championship and L1.

As for Forests squad being threadbare, have a look at it.
It is considerably better than ours was and their injury problems were nothing like we had at the Rovers.

May be we all choose to read what we want to read and I happen to go along with the Forest supporter who expressed his opinion on our site.
To lose one of your best back four is not good but to lose two in the same period is disastrous. Just look at the idiot who was yellow carded early in the first half at Watford, then warned again, went on to pull a player down but the ref never saw it and finally getting sent off for a silly pointless tackle. All in the first 30mins and yes Sean was trying to sub him but the ref never allowed it in time. That player would not have been selected but because of the shortage due to injuries he had to play him. For me that cost Sean 3 points but that’s football and my opinion having watched the game.

I think you are in agreement with me that 3 wins and the supporters will be with AM and Sean is forgotten? but the reverse is also true if results don't flow

When it comes to the yo-yo club bit, it will be fine in the 1st Div but watch happens if we get back in the Championship and its goes like our last season!!! DOOM AND DISPONDENCY, we simply do not have the resources to stay there.

Deano has worked a small miracle with the squad he has but if you lose say two key players e.g. Jonesie and Cotts for a lengthy period that has more effect than say losing 6 Lewis Guy's in a squad(don't take it personal Lewis)
