So winning a slam gets you an OBE. I think it’s ridiculous to give Murray an OBE instantly just because he won a medal and a slam. It would have been better to give him that honour after he retires.

Agree with you abnegation in some respects, but there's probably an element of charity work, kids stuff as well, but personally I'd like to see these sorts of honours given when career is complete.

If someone achieves something truly great why should they wait till their careers are over for recognition? Some may not even live to see that day
Why not celebrate their greatness while they are still alive and continuing to do great things?
I understand your argument but there is a difference cause most people dont retire till they are in their late 50's early 60's where as Murray will most likely retire in his early 30's
I think Wiggins absolutely deserves to be knighted and Murray totally deserves to be honoured for what he achieved this season cause in reality there isnt that much difference between what they achieved

These awards are best given when the career is complete and in conjunction with considerable charity work not given to any Tom, Dic k and Harry.
Victoria Pendleton CBE? Please
Jess Ennis? OBE etc
Personally, i won't give anyone under 50 a knighthood.

Yes I understand what you are saying but isn’t an OBE given for doing greater things? I mean you can’t just be given OBE because you won a grand slam or a medal. That is not worth an OBE! That is such an easy way to get such honour. Let’s say Murray had won all four grand slams and he had achieved a career slam, that’s when OBE is worth to give. Basically my point here is, to get an OBE, you have to achieve greater things not just win one medal or slam and get OBE.

If winning a grand slam is such an easy thing why has no British tennis player been able to win one in almost 80 years?
Murray ended the drought for British tennis in 3 different categories while playing in an era where majors, tournaments and titles have been dominated by arguably the greatest player the game has ever seen, arguably the greatest clay court player ever and another player who is likely to end his career as one of the all time greats too. What he achieved deserves a lot of respect
An OBE or CBE is not the greatest honour that can be bestowed on a person, had Murray won multiple majors then he would deserve to be knighted,so an OBE is quite appropriate for now.Im sure Murray will win more majors and will probably be knighted one day
