Reading fan Chat - Spurs V Reading

A warm hello once again to all Spurs fans – for those who don’t know me yet, it’s a Royals fan 100% in peace, and I represent Reading’s ‘Royals Rendezvous’. It would be really interesting for us to have any general comments from you, like how you see the game going and general thoughts on your own team, and your (honest!) opinion of Reading.

I know some people don’t particularly like other fans producing a shopping list of questions to answer, and I perfectly understand that, so I leave any comments freely and totally with you. But if you like, these simple following ideas might be used as a very basic guide in case you’d like to write to something slightly longer:

A] What do you feel are currently the strongest areas of YOUR squad, and who should Reading individually look out for / fear most?
B] Any young stars coming through the academy that we should keep an eye on, now or in the future? Any thoughts on the new national U21 leagues, congratulations on such a fine showing in the first stages winning your group of course, you’re now into the Elite Division …
C] Well, it’s a re-run of last season at the top of the premier so far, both Manchester clubs are really turning the heat on, but I should like as a genuine fan to say how impressed I am with your own season – real dark horses, and we Royals still remember clearly how you outplayed us earlier in the season! So … where do you think you can finish at the end of the season if all goes well?
D] How strong do you see the general level of the premier this season, and any surprises for you? What about Reading FC and our current football (you can be honest!) – do you frankly see us surviving, when there is already a nasty table position for us? ...

Many thanks, here’s to a good game! I’ll be looking in daily, so likewise, any questions from you - just pop them on this thread …

The Oracle is ok for shopping I suppose but the Oxford Road is a dump

A- We are strong all round the park at the moment except for right back.

C- If we are lucky with injuries, then the highest we could finish is 2nd. realistically though 4th or 5th probably.

D-Everton and west brom have been the surprise packages. Everton have a strong side.

E-If you play like you did against us all season then youve got no chance, and will finish bottom.

I like Reading a lot - these days they're the nearest team to me geographically. Was a bit gutted when you went down last time.

Hard to see you surviving this season to be honest. But I hope they stick with McDermot, and also don't try to spend their way out of trouble in January.

A big plus for you is we'll be missing Bale. I'd like to think Andros Townsend will get a run out in his place. But I think more likely is Dempsey or Sigurdsson playing from the left. So our main wing threat will be from Lennon on the right, but I'd expect Demps/Sig to drift in lots, meaning we try to play through the middle quite a lot.

Here goes guys, but first thanks on the replies, this is an active board I see ..

Chronic - Bayern Hotspur are back baby!! I wouldn't try to be arrogant enough to predict a Reading victory, but who knows if you have a real off-day and we ourselves just happen to click. By way, what do I call you for short?!

grandspurs - yep, Reading is one of biggest two or three towns in the country (not having city status I mean) but not up to much for shopping; all bunged together in two or three streets, could have planned it more spacious in my opinion. Leaving town on the Oxford Road was something I did for years - I was a Tilehurst lad myself ...

Lions/Brayns > digbi's angels since - not rude at all, that was as good as we've seen all season to being totally outplayed, your performance that day is STILL being talked about on the Royals Rendezvous forum as the yardstick that we should consider for making the jump up to premier football level.

Super Tottenham.
Is Brian McDermott a good manager? Good in everything that has been asked of him so far. The championship holds no fear for him, but this is now uncharted territory in his management career! And the premier is no charity!!
Do you expect to bring in any players this January transfer window? Yes, 3-5 I'd say. Arshavin is the name on everyone's lips, seems like our Russian owner may be using his influence there ... Several other rumours too, but nothing 'very probable' just yet.
Do you think you can avoid relegation? I'd love to say 'yes' but if I'm truthful and honest, it's more 'no' than 'yes'. Playing catch up is difficult. I think that unfortunately we now see we overachieved last season - great team spirit and unity, but less flair than Saints and less of a proven manager who has the blah-blah like big Sam ... with McDermott largely trusting the players we've got we are now in difficulties especially in mid-field and defence. Goalkeepers and attackers basically OK ...

OK Phil & the As!! Thanks for the words about Reading; we're not an arrogant bunch and know it will be difficult - but last three seasons under McDermott we'vbe done second half of season surges, so why not dream? But I think today is a step too far too soon, unless you don't really turn up and we're on song - no more than a 1 in 10 possibility.
