Now Is As Good As Any Time...

I feel like the aftermath of a 3-0 win might be the best time to get a concise version of my thoughts so far on us across:

1) I think just about every Liverpool fan acknowledges that we could and should have had at least a few more points than we have at this stage. If you think that we're in serious trouble or going backwards and have well thought-out reasons, then that's okay.

But please don't adopt this relatively modern tactic of misrepresenting those who disagree with you. I'm a Liverpool fan who thinks that, given time and the right decisions, our manager will improve us. There are plenty of others like me, but there are NONE of these apocryphal fans who say things like "yeah, we lost, but we had X amount of possession so that's okay". This is an utter fantasy dreamt up by frustrated fans.

Nobody says this. Nobody. I've unfollowed countless people on Twitter because they dream up this argument to support their own. These guys should give lessons in attacking straw men.

2) There may be a few more comfortable results like today before the end of the season, because we're a talented but far from complete team who are capable of completely dominating teams who don't fight properly against us, but we can still be undone by teams who are highly motivated and play to their best against us. Wins by a few goals need to be viewed in perspective, the same as losses by a few goals.

3) There may be a few more uncomfortable results like Stoke before the end of the season, because we're a talented but far from complete team who are capable of completely dominating teams who don't fight properly against us, but we can still be undone by teams who are highly motivated and play to their best against us. Wins by a few goals need to be viewed in perspective, the same as losses by a few goals.

4) Half a dozen teams have been managed better than us for 3 or 4 years - stop viewing everything that happens to us through the prism of us being a top 4 team. It helps nobody, and is roughly the equivalent of doing a 7 team accumulator every week and going spare every time it doesn't come through - you're beating yourself up due to unrealistic expectations. We are not going to be amongst the four most consistent teams this season.

5) Unless I'm mistaken, we're the only top flight team with two signings worth roughly 16-18m lined up before the transfer window even opens. For goodness' sake at least acknowledge that and, whether you agree with the quality of the signings or not, realise that the manager and owners are trying to address the situation. If there was some conspiracy to take us backwards, these deals wouldn't be lined up.

6) Have a great new year folks. We all - even, somewhere deep in their hearts, the fans who seem to will us to lose so they can rant and rave - want Liverpool to do well. I'm sorry if I've been a little less coherent the past few weeks, I've basically been on a huge bèndër the past while.

Here's to the reds hitting the ground running in the new year.

He wasn't the finished article but he was much more of an established player than Borini. I was underwhelmed by the signing of Borini and I hope its not indicative of our future transfer policy

Our transfer policy? Give the new manager £27m to spend in his first window after spening over £100m the previous two? I hope it is like that.

I hope we buy more 20/21 year old full internationals for the top nations.

That will be a good transfer policy, with some experience mixed in every now and again.

We've got plenty of potential at the moment Righteous. I think we need a bit proven quality.

What like Ramirez

But proven quality is hard to come by for us and thus it's difficult and that's why we ARE speculating to accumlate by bring in a mixture of younger and older players.

Don't forget that younger players need to play football to blossom - Ince wouldn't be the player he is now if he'd stayed in our reserves instead of going out and getting games.

We don't have the means to buy top established talent, we have to buy players and try to turn them into top talent. You have to make a commitment when signing young players, they have to be given room to grow. If they're given that proper opportunity, they might make the grade, but they definitely won't if their path is blocked too much.

Suarez, Borini, Sturridge, Sterling and Ince is a decent set of options for the forward line, Suarez is established, Borini is semi-established as is Sturridge, and Sterling and Ince are relative newbies. All of them will get plenty of appearances to help them develop.

According to http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php

Borini could be back in full training next week.

Assuming we beat Mansfield, then FA Cup 4th round w/end of 26th-27th looks like a perfect time for him to get some minutes.
