Forward march!!

This isn't another criticism in the ever growing list of GM's player recruitment activity, more a gentle nudge in the right direction.

Man alive do we need a striker and quick, after watching last nights outing in Greater Sheffield it is even more painfully apparent now quite how threadbare we are up front.

I know that the Irish fella(who will now surely not be getting a contract) would be behind Morrison in the pecking order, but we need somebody else up there. Madine is a curious bloke, a bit of blustering here and there and then he reverts to not really being bothered enough to chase balls.

In the second half yesterday he was the lone man up front and to be fair a good proportion of his virtual non existence up front did come from the chronic lack of service. But what little I did see of him on his own didn't fill me with confidence that he can do the business in this role if required.

Not sure what if anything is going on with Mellor. I would like him back but to be honest we are too close now to the season to be messing about and therefore run the risk of missing out on any other potential targets. So, if I was GM I'd make him a take it or leave it offer now, give him until Saturday to mull it over and if it doesn't happen by then, well it just doesn't happen.

Morrison as we're led to believe by him, is the fittest and sharpest he's ever been in a pre season. So you would think you could put him down for 20 goals next season, but as we know all too well, we're never sure whether it will be old semaphore hands or a quality front man that will turn up.

The front pairing as it stands will be Madine and Morrison, this needs changing or tweaking or whatever you want to call it, or we're going to struggle up front this season.

Striker please Ginge!

UP THE OWLS!!!!

Mighty Milan..

Just comes down to money and as much as I hate to agree with i_monster - alot of what we think about his wages and motivations is down to press talk; we don't know the full story.

True about JOC i guess, who else would want to sign him? Think we offered a low wage to him as Meggy hopefully see's him as a bit part player next season if we are very short on Midfeilders <fingerscrossed>

"I think the league is a lower standard this season but if you look at Brighton and Southampton's teams last year compared to ours you can only say we'er miles away from that standard"

Taut, so you had Brighton down as run away winners of L1 this time last year did you

No, I didn't but neither did I know much about them. Looking at their squad this time last season and watching them play, they ares clearly far superior to us.

They look a good squad in retrospect cos they won the league? I'd argue it had more to do with the team spirit instilled in the team by the manager then the quality of the individuals in the squad.

Yeah, Brighton's whole was far and away greater than the parts. Kudos to Poyet for that.

Maybe it is hindsight but I think it takes a bit more than team spirit to get 95 points.

They had 2 strikers who both scored 20 goals or thereabouts for a start, along with that Wood geezer from WBA. Then there's Bennett out wide who's just gone to Norwich, taht Spanish right-back...

Yes, it's in retrospect and I'm not exactly an expert on their squad but I don't see any players in our squad who look capable of producing similar. Hope I'm wrong.

True, but lets face it, you could have put Rooney in our team last year and we wouldn't have got promoted.

JOC's agent contacted all Football League clubs & the top two divisions in Scotland and no-one was interested at anything near the £4k per week that we had offered.

Of course the Mellor deal is still a possibility. Wednesday & Mellor are both playing chicken to see who can get the deal that they want.
