I do not want to hear!

Been having a think on what i would like to see in the Jan transfer window.

i really hope i dont hear words about players such as young, potential, exciting prospect.

i want us to sign a couple of old heads. someone sure of himself, been there, got the t-shirt. i think a couple of good shouts would be, however im not sure of there availability:

Jamie Carragher - be great for the youngster to learn off him, always been reliable (to play centre half)

D Murphy - Think hes at blackburn, but i was gutted we werent even in for him in the summer

Twilight of career type players, not young arrogant brats

any other ideas?

While we're on about Alonso...what's happening with his court case?

"DF was quoted as saying that if we were going to sign players they would be low cost and more than likely from lower divisions. This fills me with massive hope that we will sign players of great quality. (I think not)."

Whilst in principle I can see where you are coming from SWIE you shouldn't be so quick to judge those in the lower leagues.

Some examples from the past and more recent times who have jumped from lower and non-league clubs to become successes in the Championship include:

Ian Wright was nearly 22 and playing non-league football when Palace snapped him up and we all know how good he turned out.

David Seaman got his first senior caps in the old Division 4 with Peterborough when he was 19. Six years later he got his first England cap.

Speaking of Peterborough they have had great success signing talent from down the football pecking order. Their back to back promotions from League 2 to the Championship came with a team who largely came from lower leagues and conference. The likes of George Boyd, Craig Mackail-Smith and Aaron Mclean. CMS is now being chased by the likes of Norwich if you believe the papers and is a Scotland international.

Buying from lower down the league setup may not be what we are used to, but I can guarantee you there are real gems out there to be found if you have an eye for genuine talent and the patience to find it and nurture it.

Being the 2nd Jan we have to give DF a chance. Although I would hope that he has targets and moves quickly as I don't want to write off Jans games waiting for new signings. Happened too often.

WF, I'm not saying there are no good prospects in the lower divisions but the likely outcome is that we will need to be very lucky to sign decent players that can compete in a higher division.

It's not too long ago that posters were slagging off all the championship players that Coyle signed. Sad to say we aren't doing too good with a lot of those players, so unless DF can find a few gems in the lower divisions, we could be in an even worse state than we are now.

The players you mentioned that made it big time are in a very minute minority. Obviously I do hope that Freedman can sign some good players but I won't be holding my breath.

Oh I agree that more often than not players are in the lower leagues for a reason.

However thats where patience, proper scouting and the loan system come in.

Many of the players Posh have signed from the lower leagues have joined on loan to start with to give them a chance to have a closer look.

However as Posh also proved the season before last when they crashed out of the Championship after one season, you still have to have that balance with players with experience of the higher leagues.

Why do we continually want to look in the lower leagues for someone to step up. Why dont we look higher, for someone to step down, bit more guaranteed ability and would fix our problem a bit quicker, which if we are not careful, we may end up in a relegation fight
