Zonal marking

It's not the system it's the implementation of it by our players and coaches. We were as bad, if not worse, when we tried to man-mark.

But then cos people like Jamie Redknapp and Alan Shearer come on telly and tell you zonal marking is bad then it must be that..

in all fairness, we were terrible at defending corners before the zonal system...

Yeh but if someone's on Danny Graham he doesn't have the time he did.

Everyone is over the moon with the replay, shows you we're happy to accept mediocrity.

The fact that we were in a winning position. I don't see hw anyone can be over the moon about a replay. Maybe Rosicky might get a game for once!.

Zonal marking is statistically proven to be a more effective defensive system than man-to-man, when used properly. What I'd like to see is us to use a bit of both, zonal generally but man marking of particular opposition threats, so today it would have been Michu and Graham, for example.

The reason why we use zonal marking is simply because we don't have enough tall players to do anything else. Even then players like Mertesacker don't use their height properly and are often out jumped.

Campbell, Kolo, Lauren, Vieira, Gilberto, Henry.

Tall players who won everything in the air that allowed us to do a combination of zonal/man to man.

We have no choice with the lack of height in midfield. Its been made even worse by selling Song and RVP.

Even then players like Mertesacker don't use their height properly and are often out jumped.
