Its now a while since Andy Fitton and his Consortium came in to save STFC.
Their plan was clear cut and on the face of it simple at the time, to clear off the debts, getting rid of all the skeletons hiding away in the cupboards and develop the site to attain self sufficiency on the football front. It was deemed that a promotion and to become a CCC team would be prefable and make everything somewhat more attractive.
Since then, the tax man has been paid off and Diamond Mike and the likes have also had all debts settled. Negotiations around the ground development have been ongoing and the last intelligence I was able to get hold of involved putting a new County Ground on the Cricket Club ground, their lease expires next year, and then to re develop the rest of the site for sport and leisure purposes, with gyms and the like and retail/cinema/ hotel etc. as well. Ambitious but do-able. Adventurous, most definitely.
Since then we have had a humiliating relegation with a team under a firmer management should have secured promotion as the previous season suggested. Sadly the team Captain was sold by our then Chairman, Fitton, against the wishes of the manager and Chief Exec, but there you go, and the rest is history. The season which followed also saw that Chairman and manager both leave as the club went through a painful implosion.
The board then appointed Jeremy Wray as Chairman, and he in turn appointed Canioman. Most of the old team left and new faces by the crowd came and went and then click, tick, tack, toe promotion at a canter and a trip to Wembley.
More faces came and went in the summer closed season and continued to do so at a pace and then..............embargo. the result of that was Wray was ousted and Canioman had his money strings.........................CUT. There is no more money said Andrew Black who is now the majority shareholder.
The money was paid in and the embargo lifted, but little cash has been left.
Now a supporters trust is collecting money for payment of wages to loan players in the hope we can keep what is now a very points productive side.
In between times the now Chairman, Sir William Patey, has said little, and what he has said has hardly endeared himself to any supporters, to the point of him being refereed to by some as Sir Forked Tongue. Confidence in abundance then, not.
So, where does Black go from here, supporters now putting their hands into their ever tighter wallets to pay wages, the manager has said he will contribute, the owner says the club is for sale. So does he speculate and sell a CCC club and promising team, or leave it in League One where it will be viewed as a loss making liability, which it is. Exit and walk away in League One, or Exite the public with a free scoring dynamic team in the Championship, his money, his choice.

I think you're totally correct in thinking that we're at a sort of cross roads and it could go either way. There's more potential for progress now than for many a year and all true fans will want to see that capitalised. It's the owners' train set but the fans make the club.
For whatever reason I'm optimistic...it might have something to do with 12 points out of the last 12 with 16 goals scored and none conceded. Not sure I can remember a record like that in my time!
