Huddersfield Town 1 v Birmingham City 1

Saturday 12th January 2013

John Smiths Stadium

Kick Off 3pm

Category B game (away fans £25/£15)

This is Towns' first home game of 2013, and sees the return of the controversial Lee Clark to Huddersfield.

This will be the 47th meeting between these two teams in Huddersfield, with the previous results showing Town have...

Pld 46...Won 19..Drawn 18..Lost .9..Scored..71..conceded..38

Of the 9 away wins by Blues, all but one was by the odd goal, and that was way back in 1926., when Blues won 2-0.

Towns' best home result was a 7-0 drubbing back in 1913.

This hasn't been a happy season so far for Birmingham City as they languish in 20th position, where they've pretty much been all season.
They have though managed away wins at Brighton, Leeds and more recently at Barnsley.(revenge for a 0-5 home drubbing) ;..coupled with 4 draws and 6 defeats... No one has really turned Blues over though, and last weeks 1-3 defeat at Bolton was actually their worst away defeat of the season so far.

The problems at Birmingham are not all on the pitch however, and administration hovers over the club. Recent accounts show £7m to be owing to the holding company. Also payments to an un-named director of £686,000 were revealed, believed to be Peter Pannu. Worse though, if that is possible, details of a bizarre sponsorship deal where the club are to pay out more than they receive from the sponsor ! Carson Yeung is owed some £14m by the club, meanwhile he awaits trial for money laundering....

No wonder Blues fans are up in arms...but when you sell your soul to the foreign devil (are you reading this Leeds fans), what else can you expect ?

Anyway, getting back to Saturdays' game...

I hope, and believe, Lee Clark will get a good round of applause from the Huddersfield fans...whatever you might say or think about him, he certainly put the hours in when he was our manager. We have all moved on, and it always best to be gracious.

We will also see McDermott, Fazackerly and Steve Watson in the visitors dugout..

Mind you, a win for Elsie over Larry would see them overtake us in the league by virtue of a better goal difference...so the stakes are high.

More recent abiding memories, apart from a decent home cup win in 2008, was our last day relegation in May 2001 after we lost 1-2. Blues fans were already celebrating their place in the play-offs but Town only needed a draw to stay up and send Crystal Palace down..no one really expected us to be relegated, but we were as Palace won at Stockport...and didn't the blues fans enjoy our misery that day..they really had a go at us...and I've not forgotten !

It's taken us 11 years to get back, and to meet them again in a league game..hopefully we will slaughter them, and they'll have enough fans here so I can take out my revenge on them by gloating....not that I hold a grudge..

Town will be introducing Scannell lookalike Neil Danns and with Vaughan, Beckford, Clayton and Southern all fit..I expect us to win this game

2-0 Town (Beckford/Danns)

att: 14,214 (away 1,074)...our 4th lowest gate of the season..

If Grayson got Burke, he'd play him at right back..then he could sell Hunt...and tell Deano what a great manager he is.....

Horses for courses Simon....put the FIFA coaching manual on the blooming bonfire...

Barca....I've just checked yesterdays posts on here at the time when the incorrect score was given by Sky & BBC. And the only people chatting on here were you and some other mentally afflicted Brummy fans......YOU T!T......

Get back under your stone, and why don't you have a look at your future opposition, you'll find them in the non league section in the Conference...

So so poor. Our midfielders seem to be getting worse and worse. Norwood is now a shell of the footballer we saw at the beginning of the season and Clayton is starting to follow a similar route as he's been woeful the past few games as well. Then we bring in Danns who is a good centre midfielder at this level and we waste his talents out wide, it's getting ridiculous. When we play the ball into midfield we're not good enough to make anything happen and when we hoof the ball over the top of the midfield it's never going to work - it's difficult to see how this slump can be stopped.

Scannell at least showed a bit of fight on Saturday, he was the only player who looked like he wanted to get at the opposition, but even then his end product is dire. He also needs to actually make runs when he doesn't have the ball as well, countless times he just stood still waiting for someone to pass to him instead of making a run for someone to play the ball in front of him. Credit to the lad though at least he tried to make things happen.

Speaking of making things happen, Adam Hammill needs re-signing ASAP, and he needs to start matches instead of coming off of the bench. On his debut against Wolves he showed how dangerous he could be, but then an injury and off the pitch antics seemed to get in his way. The last few games however he's looked like a real match winner, running at players, getting into the box and in general causing the opposition a fair few problems. Forget about his off the field problems, if we're to stay clear of danger we're better off with him than without him. It's up to Saunders now though, I imagine he'll want to have a look at Hammill so don't see him coming back unfortunately.

Clarke and Gerrard - how bad are they? Neither are known for their ability on the ball but they took the micky on Saturday. Countless times they took the ball in plenty of space and either hoofed a ball straight back to the opposition or misplaced a short pass. The good teams at this level have players who drop back to take the ball from the defence - Drinkwater does it brilliantly and Norwood did it a lot at the beginning of the season. Now we have nobody showing for the ball apart from Jack Hunt, then when Jack gets the ball nobody wants it so he ends up hoofing it as well (until Hammill came on). Why don't any of our players want the ball? It was embarrassing watching Hammill try make things happen when there are 4 blue shirts surrounding him with no Town player within 20 yards.

God knows how we're going to get out of this slump but I can't see it happening any time soon given the very difficult run of matches we've got to look forward to. By the time we've played our next 5 matches we could realistically find ourselves right in the thick of it, in fact that seems more probable than possible. Vaughan and Beckford are being starved of service, our midfield is uselss, all our wingers are out of form, we can't defend to save our lives - we're in trouble. I completely understand why Dean might be against spending in January but he faces a very tough couple of weeks as without spending we could be in major trouble.

It was particularly noticeable when we had throw ins, all the Town players were just stood watching..not one player made a run...

This lack of willingness to run about seems to have been missed by Grayson and his coaching staff...maybe they are saving ourselves for....well, I don't know what they're saving themselves for...Nandos', summer holidays, ?? ...maybe the kit man told 'em not to get their shirts mucky...

It's all school boy errors eh Jacko.
But these guys have been 'picked' from youth as having potential..
As an 11 man unit, they should have some basic gumption to sort out problems 'on the go' among themselves in that regard.. do you need to be coached.. to know that you move around, dash about - making a space for yourself to recieve a ball from a throw in ?
(and that's just that small aspect of the game).

Harry Rednapp said on the beeb that "You can't just go in and shout at players like we used to do".....
WHAT !
There in might be the 'problem'..
Ego's that are so well paid, & think they are beyond reproach ..who are 'asked' to carry out their tasks rather than being TOLD in no uncertain terms what's required.
The 'effort' expected seems to be a negotiable requirement at our club. Seriously, I don't know of anyone other than Novak who puts in the required effort - especially 'off' the ball.

Watch Bradford against Arsenal & Villa respectively..
all dashing about all over the place, making themselves available. 4th division !
That said, you shouldn't need to be told to do that as an adult player even at local -hobby football- level..
But Championship standard !!!

Is it just me ?
