Football Terry Butcher: 'It was a gut feeling - I never wanted to leave Inverness' STV 10 January 2013 17:26 GMT Facebook Tweet Google Terry Butcher “never wanted to leave" Inverness Caledonian Thistle and is happy to have committed himself to the club after holding talks with Championship side Barnsley.

Butcher pledged to stay with the Highland side after holding talks at Oakwell but he said the “special" campaign being enjoyed by Thistle made the decision an easy one.

He said: “I decided to stay because we have something special here. I want to complete that and finish the job off.

“I never wanted to leave and I don’t want to leave. I’m very happy here.

“At this moment in time Inverness Caledonian Thistle is the best place for my managerial career and it is for the players as well.

“I’m probably not being praised by my bank manager but it was gut feeling that I wanted to get back here.

“It wasn’t done to get increase my salary here either. It was a football decision."

Butcher said that Inverness’ campaign had been “a fairytale" this season and he could not go against his gut feeling that staying in the SPL was the right thing for him.

He added: “When you have that high standard of play and the possibility of making this the best season ever, that’s a pretty big draw.

“Why would I want to leave that behind? I just didn’t want to.

“We’ve got to a position now that is like a fairytale to us and once you go well beyond what you expect you are into a world where you think ‘this is incredible’ and you wonder if it could get even better.

“I’ve had a few gut feelings in my time and this is a really strong one

so why waste barnsley fc'' time we could have been looking elsewhere for a manager

Pretty clear to me Barnsley had nothing to offer him. How was he to know this before talking to them?

they offered him twice the money he is on now but the point i am making if he was'nt interested he sould have told barnsley no from the start instead of wasting two days

Even if your more than happy at your job, if another company came in for you, your still going to listen to what they are offering.

Yes but double wasn't enough then. Terry butcher will be well off, money isn't everything. Plus they might of offered very little in a transfer budget. If he was offered £2m a year plus £15m transfer budget then I'm sure he would of signed. You at least need to hear the offer. It wasn't good enough to leave what he's got.

He probably showed up expecting a much bigger transfer and wage budget than was offered and thought I can get Barnsley out of this.

He then looked at the figures and realised such a task is nigh on impossible when other clubs in similar positions have much bigger budget.

The Statement above is to make himself appear loyal to the fans,

It all boils down to the man being genuine IMO. He's probably done himself a power of good by these actions.

He was more than likely offered the opportunity and as a gent went down showing courtesy to Barnsleys offer.

Money isn't everything, he should not be pilloried for being honest.

I'm surprised you've not gone for Brian Laws...!

Might as well stick with Flicker now

Flicker might well get it, but I think it could be someone else already at the club, something is going around about Branson.
