Villarreal have released accounts for the 2011/12 season showing a loss of €23million.
Revenues were €89million and expenses were €110million.
Villarreal's relegation to Segunda was always going to have a financial impact as television revenue has plummeted and the club's average attendance has fallen to a mere 8,000.
In the last 18 months players such as Santi Cazorla and Giuseppe Rossi have been sold, but the club's finances are still in a bad position and with less assets to cover expenditure then promotion to La Liga is vital. Nevertheless, Villarreal lie 6th in Segunda in the final Play-Off spot which means their promotion chances aren't great but still possible.
If the current poor run of form continues then I'd expect Velazquez to lose his job soon.

Perhaps I should change the final paragraph.
