Stevenage v Rovers

100% effort against a team that were very strong and physical with both sides playing some attractive football. The Stevenage manager on local radio described Rovers as being a very good team which shows that we are developing more facets to our play than solid defence.
The pressure we put on them towards the end eventually overwhelmed them. McCombe was solid in defence and Hume is amazingly energetic. Bennett does not seem to know what his role is and sadly appears to have lost his confidence and it difficult to see why Copps doesn’t start. With this more sophisticated style he can fit in very well and he made a difference when he came on.
The ref made some strange decisions and upset both sides and even though he was trying to keep the game flowing he did let some very rough challenges go. There was one when two of theirs went in on Bennett somewhere around the half way line and might have broken each others' legs not to mention Bennett who managed to jump out of the way just in time, but nothing was given.
It was spirited stuff and even when it looked that it might finish 0:1 I was thinking that we would have gone down fighting. The support was great and numerous; we filled a whole stand; I just wish the chanting was a little more relevant, rather than plain crude and puerile. It seems that anything goes provided it is not racist (which it wasn’t), but far too much of it is so unpleasantly and unimaginatively offensive (and not even faintly humerous) that I would guess that it makes the majority of the rest of us feel uncomfortable. And it has got worse at away matches this year.

Donaldo,
I am just recovering from the drink. Yes you make a very good point with the chanting. When their gk Arnold walked in to the goal at our end for the second half, he waved to our supporters and the vile abuse he got was embarrassing. It would have been better if our supporters chanted something humorous but that kind of leadership is not there in football supporters.
There was one chant by our lot when one of the opposition went down injured which went on the lines off "hoping he died" or words close to that. Thats the sick part of football.

Agreed. So who wants to involved or even accept that behaviour. No wonder the trouble is returning. And if we silver surfers say anything then the abuse comes and the foolish threats, idiots. rubbish s um c ap what ever your personal thoughts, we should never accept that as normal. Yes this is coming from me. Yes he who many think is a WUM etc and talks rubbish. But again me and people like those who have mentioned the subject on this thread are perfectly correct. If they want an area where they can be put in cages then give it to them, then the fences will return

This was my 1st away game this season (until the Blades game I hadn't seen anything at home to persuade me to part with the hard-eaned) and I have to say I very much enjoyed the performance and comitment of the team. I was sitting next to an almost neutral Watford fan (the long trip to 'Boro was too far to go). Apparently he often visits other local sides like Stevenage and MK Dons (spit) in search of a match to watch and it was interesting to hear his comments on the various incidents. Overall he thought we edged it - I thought we were somewhat more in the drivers seat than that (biased view of course).
Our support was excellent, although I can understand why some on here thought some of the chanting a bit dubious. I suspect (but don't know for sure) that one of these fans was the idiot who pulled the 'comunication cord' on our train as it pulled out of Grantham. The resulting 10 min delay meant I missed my bus, couldn't be bothered to wait 35mins for the next one so legged it home (probably did me good I suppose). Along with other recent incidents at away games I hope this doesn't further tarnish the (good) reputation of most Rovers fans!
Still very much early days of course but on this showing I'd like to see the dynamic duo, alias 'Flynn and Jones', given an extended run in charge of the team. This may be seen by some as the 'cheap -n-cheerful' option, but so what, who cares so long as it works!!

If we win 18 of the remaining 19 games we will beat the 46/47 record for most wins in a season. Easy!

nothing wrong with cheap n cheerful most of us rovers fans have been brought up on it.Its just that some of us stupidly expect something better.

What a result that was! I'm trying not to get excited about our prospects this season but am failing miserably!
A big queue of clubs outside the top two so we have to be looking to get 3 points every week to avoid the gap between us and the pack shrinking.
A must win game on Saturday with Tranmere away to Brentford, an opportunity to gain some point son one or both. Hopefully Coventry can do us a favour mid week too!

Mmmm, think I'd prefer a draw there. I know they're still a fair way behind us but Coventry have been doing well recently and if they can overcome the loss of McGoldrick they could be well up there come the business end of the season.
