...I think that can firmly put to bed the myth that Liverpool up their game for these matches.
Decent effort in the second half, but it only served to emphasise how poor we were in the first. I don't normally stick the boot in, but we were awful, it was pretty grim watching United's players taking terrible touches and our players not being close enough or caring enough to close them down.
Oh well, I said the other week that, regardless of the result today, I hope we can build on the decent performances we've had recently. If anything, the game today showed what works for us and what doesn't.
Well then...

We were very good in the second half, just Suarez was totally isolated in the first because Sterling and Downing were anonymous and FAR too wide. I understand Downing staying back to cover for Wisdom but Sterling should have been up with Suarez.
Sterling needs a few games on the bench for me.
What was great to see was Rodgers changing things and really having a go at the game. With United playing 4-4-2 you can match them up in midfield and we did so in the second half.
That's what I like about Brendan - when he changes things it normally always works.

Today's performance was no different to when Hodgson and Kenny took Liverpool to OT. Each time we went 2 goals down after being outplayed and then pulled one back (2 when Hodgson was manager) and then huffed and puffed for a bit and when back up the M62 with 0 points.

I agree with the OP
We have a few too many passive performers and not enough players big enough to control the stuation.

To be honest I think Sterling needs to develop a bit more upper body strength/weight before we see the best out of him.
At the moment he's getting knocked off the ball too easily.

Sterling needs to be older and that's about it. You don't get many 18 year old lads playing in these games now do you.
The set up was wrong as was the team selected. Man Utd were decent in the first half though I thought.

Poor first half, good second. Utd deserved it over 90 minutes.

Sterling needs a few games as a break. Now we have Sturridge, Borini and Downing playing again with Suarez we afford to give Sterling a break.
Brendan showed his ability to again change a game and it nearly always works.

First half we were rancid, it almost looked like they knew they were beat before a whistle was blown. The 2nd goal was absolutely sloppy marking.
Sturridge made the difference when he came on and from then on in we had Utd on the ropes but their experience and professionalism saw them through.
