Because they gave him an excuse for finishing 4th. Its not about competing with wages its about us aiming for 4th instead of 1st.. When wenger looks at the transfer market he thinks what player will get us 4th not which player will help us win the league. I am so sick of us buying players around the 10 million mark.

Mr Chelsea I get your point I agree with all you said, it's not Chelsea fault but Wenger fault for accepting the new challenge like Man u did. Wenger has not been addressing all the problems you mentioned like wage structure because in his eyes we are succeeding by getting 4th and it's ridiculous.

For not accepting the challenge *

Tomimac, I honestly think you just need a change of manager at the club. You have the financial muscle to compete but Wenger is reluctant to spend. Sometimes stability does more harm than good. A change of management can revitalise the club. There is life after Wenger.

Well there have been plenty of players who we could have got for around £10 million or under who are decent. The likes of Ba, Van Der Vaart before he signed for Tottenham.

Mr Chelsea
Off topic, but did you see Lukaku playing for WBA?We should get him in and bin Nando,or bench him.

I agree just the clock is ticking I hope it's not too late before we lose out ability to attract top players and a top manger. Unfortunately with every business if you don't invest the money you make it will bite you eventually no matter what industry, it's just a shame not everyone wants change

We do need a manager that is willing to spend. Wenger is contempt working within his little bubble as his target is top 4.
We need a manager that actually challenges the board and spends a bit extra to get the right player

bluebells yep I saw Lukaku. He's looking good but we have to remember he's at a club under less pressure. He can go 3/4 games without scoring and WBA can go on a bad run without anyone noticing. He should stay there and develop more

The wage structure is a huge problem; I read somewhere recently that Wenger has some sort of almost socialist policy towards wages, ie all players earning similar amounts. If true this is ridiculous, you end up with poor players earning too much and being a burden on the club whilst the best players are earning too little compared to players of similar ability at other clubs, and so look to leave. The best need to be paid top dollar, average players should get average money.
I tend to agree with the original post - Wenger has laid down at the financial might of Chelsea/City, almost accepting 'we can't compete therefore we'll set our sights lower'. Yet arsenal have the reputation, the stadium & the profit margins to compete at the top, but first they need to freshen up a very stale managerial set up and restructure the wages to attract the best. Honest opinion from a Spurs fan.
