Yesterdays Game

Should of had the game sewn up in the first half, Welbeck missed 2 great oppurtunities, thought RVP couldve taken a touch from Youngs pass instead of trying the clever side foot finish, also the goal mouth scramble where Kagawa seemed to leave the ball and clatter into Reina when it looekd easier to score!!!

Cleverley and Carrick dominated the 1st half, Clevz impressed me with his shutting down and slick 1 touch passing in tight situations, Carricks passing was crisp and accurate

Evra and Kagawa linked well and I really thought we'd kick on when we scored the 2nd

I agree with what SAF said, if we had been at 2-0 for 10 minutes or so we wouldve went and won 3 or 4 nil, fair playt to Liverpool for making a game of it but I thought our sloppiness let them back into it more than anything they really done.

Atmopshere was pretty good, Teeth are offside

All in all another 3 points picked up, shouldve been more comfortable but its another box ticked in the run down to the title.

Towards the end it was all Liverpool, and to be honest we made hard work for ourselves. I don't think there can be any denying that we should have been 3 up before half time.

I also think that, while Liverpool did dominate for periods of time, there weren't many 'clear cut' chances. I think you only had 2 shots on target, though I could be wrong. TKT, do you think that sums up the season you're having? Dominating for periods with no real 'bite'? Sturridge showed both the good and the bad, while he did score a goal that showed a 'poaching' instinct, he was anything but clinical.

but we had a fair few shots just wide or over from good positions.

'on target' stats won't show that.

"TKT, do you think that sums up the season you're having? Dominating for periods with no real 'bite'? "

yes, that's fair. Although with Sturridge in and Borini back I'm hoping that improves quite a bit.

Suarez isn't a centreforward nor has he ever been. We've been making do.

Letting him drop back to a more natural support and/or wide role took the burden off him and the impact was immediate.

Right from the kickoff of the second half Suarez was more involved in 5 mins than he'd been all match.

Despite the result you've probably noticed how positive we've been about yesterday. It's been a long 4 and a half months waiting for reinforcements in attack and we liked what we saw.

TKT, that was what I was getting at with regards to so many misses, Sturridge alone had 2 or 3 of those that I remember and the goal he did score, he couldn't really miss. Though you did look much better when he came on, perhaps him and Suarez will form some sort of partnership.

I can see why you'd be positive and I think 5th/6th would be a realistic target for you this season and I think a decent cup run again this year would do you good.

although sturridge scored i though his decision making yesterday was shocking!

i think i saw on at least three occassions him hit the side netting ( or just wide) from stupidly tight angles rather than pull the ball back across goal.

Sturridge has some skill but he is a very selfish player.

He is on a par with Welbeck (though i rate Welbeck more) and Liverpool look to him as their saviour whilst we, at this point in time, see Welbeck as just another player.

It says it all really

One point on the match, I think Welbeck and Young were a big part of us not finding rhythm.

Welbeck was doing his best Forrest Gump running perpetually and forcing rushed passes from the back

Young tracked back relentlessly and our left flank was shut down tight. Sterling could only pass back and johnson couldn't get forward.

Welbeck burnt himself out so that made the second half a lot easier for us and Young went off injured.

IMO two attacking players were your best defenders, for a half at least.

I can live with 'greedy' Sturridge

the mere fact that Suarez doesn't have to play centreforward anymore is worth it.

And Sturridge was probably greedy and selfless in equal measure. He looked for Suarez quite a bit. nearly played Suarez behind Rio but the pass was 0.2mm too far and it went off Suarez's foot for a goal kick.
