Smalling is a REAL player

Smalling will be a top top player..the sky is the limit learning from Vidic and Rio

He's turned out better than I thought he would.

Good signs for the future with his and Jones performances together

A bit of a shame for Johnny Evans really. I had the same thoughts about him 2 years ago, but a few bad performances last season and all of sudden it's all about Smalling. Hopefully both of them (and Jones) can provide stiff competition in the centre back spots for the forseeable future.

Evans is nowere near as bad as some like to make out. He's got the ability he just had a bit of a crisis in confidence in the early part of last season. I still think he'll come good again.

Agreed. I think he has lot t offer, just as you say, a crisis of confidence. Learning from the Captain though willbe a huge boost, and hopefully, the extra competition will show his true colours. If not, we could always sell him to Sunderland!

Smalling and Jones will both go through patches like Evans did.... all young players go through it

Will be interesting to see the fans reactions... seems some "fans" are so desperate for a new face, they will quickly slag off someone who has been on the scene for even just a few years.

Evans has ALOT to offer and those fans that were calling for his head should hang theirs in shame.

Smalling looks good,haven't seen jones at all to be honest and am looking forward to seeing him,Evans I am not convinced,his distribution of the ball just isn't where it needs to be and you need your central defenders to be able to hit a good pass as well as defend,I might be being a bit tough on the lad but I just don't think he is good enough,not a bad guy to have on the bench though
