6000 people attend a preseason friendly. The first game at home at the start of a new season. Morale in the fan base is low because of lack of signings.
So what do they do... Announce that it's £14 and the upper tiers will be closed.
Why didn't they have a £5 admission charge for over 18's. Kids for free and a bumper crowd when the kids are off school
IMO. They missed out last night on introducing youngsters for nothing.
6000 x £14 or 18000 x £5 with loads of enthusiastic kids.
This club of ours has no consideration for hard up families!

The atmosphere was very flat, I blamed it on being a pre-season game but the mood around me, listening to people's comments I suspect you could be right

We do things like that and you laugh at us, but it's a great way of getting young fans into games.
When you're 8 you have no differentiation between a preseason friendly and a league game.
Surprised only 6,000 turned up to watch. Do you have a bigger home friendly coming up?

totally agree, they missed a huge trick charging that price

Atmospheres at pre-season friendlies are rubbish, because everyone knows that the game is meaningless.
I agree with the OP though, the Club could have made it a free night to everyone. Big crowd, great experience for people who had never been to a game, especially children, would maybe encourage future sales and it would have been a nice gesture.
It's all about money I'm afraid. The days of just being nice for little or no money are long gone.

Just seen that Exeter City ( who Derby are playing on Saturday ) are offering their fans free admission to the Derby game as long as they join the Exeter City Trust. The trust is a big part of the Club and encourages supporters to really get involved with all sorts of projects and even have a say in how the Club is run etc. It costs £24 to join, but sounds like a real positive way of encouraging loyal, local support. A good example of the Club and the supporter getting something out of the same deal.

The game is free if you join something that costs £24 to join. Sounds like they've been to the Mark Arthur school of finance. Gougers.
