Adkins Gone!

Amazing, really thought he deserved longer

posted on 18/1/13

To take a club from League 1 to the Premier League grants the man the right to be relegated and try again.

At the moment it looks like he was going to keep them up at the first time of asking. This is an astonishingly bad decision.

I'm a bit gutted now because, being the bitter Blues fan I am, I was pinning my hopes on Villa going down but this is a massive lifeline for them!

Absolutely ridiculous, bright young manager who has the team playing nice football

Totally agree - an absolute joke.
The idiot who runs Soton said something like, we need someone in who can help us achieve our aims - I assume he means getting them relegated because Adkins was well on the way to establishing them as a decent premiership side, whihc is all that can be asked in any teams 1st season, especially on the back of 2 successive promotions.
No way to treat a decent bloke.

Swindon fan in peace.

The world's gone totally mad.

I thought the recent sacking of Sean O'Driscoll was bad, but this takes things to a totally different level. By any indicator NA is an extremely successful manager who gets his teams to play in the right way. Despite a predictably difficult start he's done well this season so far and I would certainly have expected him to keep Saints up.

What sort of moronic owner thinks that anyone can come along and do better than this? No answer required.

Some other clubs gain that's for sure...
Hope it's us

Very hard to take to a club who work on these lines.
Yeah, maybe another stint in't Championship would seem like a nice serve of humble pie for the Saints hierarchy..... as usual, It'll be the fans who suffer.

Another club with a back and front as a chairman hope you stop up with a manager who was sacked for being bottom of la liga good luck

I can't believe it! As a Saints fan, I'm horrified about how Nigel has been treated. Disgusting.

More idiot decisions from idiot directors. Michael Appleton may be the board's next target.

weird sacking.. southampton have been heading in the right direction and their last result was a good point at stamford bridge considering they were 2-0 down... hopefully it'll send saints into freefall.. but nothing against soton..only cause im a villa fan

Outrageous.
I agree with all the points made already.
He was a good footballing man and seemed like a top bloke.
It makes me fear for the club's future in this division now and I wonder how the players will now react and play for the new manager.
It is just one more thing that as fans we cannot fathom out. It's totally heinous to do this after bringing the club up from league one in some style.
Obviously not something for me to worry too much about, not being a Saint's fan, but if you love your football, you can't help but be a bit outraged really.
I thought he was doing great and getting to grips with the situation. You had just given Chelsea (European Champions no less) a run for their money.....
It's a sad day for football.
