Game of two halves, player ratings

Sadly we've only got ourselves to blame for that loss. That first half was one of the worst I've seen even in this dreadful season, constantly shooting ourselves in the foot time and time again, giving possession away, not being clinical enough (that early Giroud chance could've been the difference). Their goals were a bit fortunate in that Ramires fouled Coquelin and the penalty decision was a bit debatable (although once given Woj was lucky to stay on). They deserved their 2-0 lead, and we deserved to be losing 2-0.

Second half was far, far better. That's the type of performance we want every week, passion, non-stop running and great effort from the majority of players. Theo's goal was great, a defence-splitting pass from Santi and a composed finish. For me Gibbs was our MOTM, non stop running, great attacking effort causing danger for Chelsea and creating chances. We really went at them late on but it wasn't to be. Thought overall we deserved a bit more but that first half meant we didn't get it.

If we combine the second half performance with some VITAL signings we can get top four. But we really, really need someone. Wenger has to see that. He has to see that this team is not enough. He can't rely on injury prone players to save our season, because there's a chance they might not be fit, and if they are there's a chance they might not be as good as we expect.

My ratings:
Woj 5 Could've saved the first, sort of to blame for pen. Made some good saves, but Verm saved him with a goalline clearance second half
Sagna 4 Decent defensively, nothing more and didn't create enough. Abysmal first half crossing
Mertesacker 5 Meh
Vermaelen 7 - Not great first half, but turned it around second. Great tackling and interceptions and that amazing block. 45 minutes of captain's performance.
Gibbs 7 I love him. Non-stop running, great on the ball.
Diaby 4 Not very good. If he plays like that there's no point to him when he's fit.
Coquelin 5 Not sure.
Wilshere 5 Showed some flashes of that stunning Swansea performance but ideally wanted more from him.
Theo 5 Offside for 45 minutes. Good second half, ran at them, scored a great goal but needed more.
Santi 6 Bit more like it.
Giroud 4 Arrrrrrrrgh. Really, really bad first half. Poor 1-on-1 finishing as usual. Needs to really make his presence felt in the air as he can certainly do that, but didn't enough today.

Ramsey 6 Good.
Arshavin 4 Not so much. Sadly it's not going to work out for him.
