Everyone always says "we need 2 or 3 players" to make us a competitive squad. Names crop up here and there depending on whose agent is looking to get their player a better deal, or whose brother happens to be an agent for a player. The things I don't see is who would you jettison from the squad to make room?
We've got loads of young talent moving though but bringing them into the 1st team and then pushing them out can be counter-productive. Some of our under-performers seem to have upped their game of late too.
So if you think we need 2 or 3 players, who would you kick out to make room for who?
So who gets the chop?

Despite enriques upturn in performances, i wouldnt say no to another lb, id also look for a pacey backup centre back, but that depends on where the manager sees wisdoms long term future

I see both Kelly and Wisdom as capable backups at centre back. When Carragher retires I'd like to see them tried there.

i think kelly has gone past the stage where he will go back to centre back now, hes settled and composed at rb, and we do have younger option for cb that could well turn out better than him

Tranq.......Robinson is going to be LFC left back for yrs, Enrique is just keeping it warm for him; we are well sorted at lb.

Completely disagree. I see Kelly as a future England centre back.

TOOR
maxi, kuyt and Bellamy weren't named in this years squad. Sahin and cole have gone but we've brought in Sturridge and maybe one more soon. If you're going to add to the squad though, someone else has to make room assuming the rest are fit don't they?
The submitted list this year WAS..
Daniel Agger, Joe Allen, Ossama Assaidi, Jamie Carragher, Sebastian Coates, Joe Cole, Doni, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Peter Gulacsi, Jordan Henderson, Glen Johnson, Bradley Jones, Jose Enrique, Martin Kelly, Lucas Leiva, Jose Manuel Reina, Nuri Sahin, Martin Skrtel, Luis Suarez.
I have just read however that the under 21 squad can be used IN ADDITION to that list. I didn't realise when I originally posted. Maybe that's why FSG want to increase our youngsters. That adds real depth to the squad.
So without jettisoning someone else, we've got room for one more over 21 player. Any more though, Someone has to make way.

We CAN have as many young players as we like. So Wisdom, Sterling, Suso etc wouldn't count as a squad place
In an ideal world I'd take Sanchez, Alonso and Sneijder in place of Sterling, Allen and Henderson. But that only means 3 young players drop to the bench and can develop over time, rather than anybody actually 'getting the chop'

im not so sure on robinson myself, doesnt seem to have bulked up much and looks a bit slight, he needs a loan move to a prem or high level championship club to really test him out

Robinson has had a lot of injuries (like Kelly really). They both need a long period of being healthy so they can learn their craft. Robinson has all the raw materials, just lacks game time.
I agree with TOOR that Kelly will be a centre half though.
I think we need a first team centre half though to play with Agger.
I don't dislike Skrtel, but I don't think he is good enough as a regular starter for a top 4 team which is where we want to be.
We need someone of Hyypia's dominance and leadership to play with Agger in my opinion.

I think Robinson will be am excellent player also. He has it all in terms of what an attacking full back should have. Most 18 year olds are slight when compared with grown athletes.
