What happened to us at the end of 2010/11?
We were struggling under Roy Hodgson in 2010. King Kenny Dalglish took over and gave the club a big lift.
We blew away Man U and Chelsea and made good progress up the PL table. KKD got the best out of Kuyt, Maxi and others.
We were on course for a CL place. We didn't have a brilliant run-in. We only came 6th.
I am still trying to comprehend what happened back then. Please would any of you shed some light on the end of that season.
Had we got into the CL...... Camp KK would have been absolutely water tight without any chinks and Moneyball would have kept going! We may have attracted better players than we got in the summer of 2012.

the final table shows we were 10 points short of 4th. Until the last couple of games we were in touching distance. Results which went bad for us went well for others i.e. CL chasing six-pointers.

comment by Fabio Borini's Knife (U1217)
We were definitely on course for a Europa League place. If we had beaten Tottenham at Anfield then we would have wrapped that up, but instead we lost our final two games. Maybe the players started feeling pressure when it became evident that we could actually achieve something, after spending months playing freely with no expectations of us and nothing to lose.

Interesting analysis there, Borini's Knife.
We were definitely in the hunt for 5th, but could have been in contention for 4th.

Why have you made two articles in succession about 2010?
This is 2013.

TOOR I need help in moving on. I only recently purchased on eBay the 2010/11 white with pinstripes LFC jersey - which to me has a very classic look.
I've even got ISTANBUL 05 on the back of it

Roy had a side capable of top4 and was a complete spacktard who almost dragged the side down to the point all our top players wanted out.
Kenny rescued it but a lot of damage was done.
The end.

We could have got champions league place. But for one reason.
I recall near spring we had won our last 4 games, kept 4 clean sheets and in all of them raul meireles had scored.
Our next game was spurs at anfield. We lost 2-0. Had we won that, spurs would not have 3 points and we would (obviously) we would have been in pole position but we failed. I see that as the main reason we didn't get champions league

Oh and worth noting that vs spurs, raul was injured.
He was a catalyst for us that season. Like a Portuguese Mac

Still don't get why KK sold Raul
I seem to remember that we were not too keen to play in the Europa so took the peddle off when Spurs came.

A CL place was never in the offing.
We had to win at Arsenal in April, but only drew (late penalty equaliser by Dirk). Even if we had won the Arsenal game we still would have been outsiders.
After that it was only ever a EL place that was up for grabs, and we blew it.
We were already to far behind at the end of January.
We only managed 6th because we had 2nd or 3rd
Place form from then on.

Actually looking at the table that year (statto.com)
It was the year Arsenal had an epic collapse from title challengers to 4th.
Man City were 4th most of the season, but we wee always 7-9 points behind until the last couple of weeks when we reduced it to 4, but they had a game in hand too.
CL was never even close.
