Spurs v Arsenal in the Wenger Era

I recently did a best spurs 11 of the '00's article, and today someone did a best Arsenal 11 of the Wenger era. So I thought; how about the best Spurs team of the Wenger era (since '96) vs the best Arsenal 11 of the same. By my reckoning it might look something like this:

------------Lloris

Carr--Campbell-King--BAE
-----------Carrick
Lennon---------------Ginola
-----------Modric
--------VDV
--------------Sherringham

Subs:
Friedel
Woodgate
Bale
Davids
Berbatov

------------Seaman
Lauren--Adams-Campbell--Cole
--------------Viera
Ljunberg--Fabregas-----Overmars
----------Bergkamp
-----------------Henry

Subs:
Lehman
Keown
Gilberto
Pires
Anelka

Obviously the Arsenal side, overall, is better, but it is a very good spurs side. The significant difference I notice is the quality of the Arsenal full backs compared to the Spurs ones, there's really no comparison and perhaps it shows the value of having quality in this position. Another of Spurs flaws is the duplication of quality in specific positions - ie Berbatov & Sherringham, Ginola & Bale, Modric & Carrick, whereas with Arsenal it's easier to find quality all over.

Finally, the biggest difference for me is the Wenger factor. He has his critics now, and I for one think he's lost it, but at his peak (late '90's early '00's) he was exceptional. Conversely Spurs have never had that elite manager, with Redknapp being our most consistent during the AW era. A peak Wenger in charge of that Spurs side would do great things. Thoughts? Any opinions on a best 11 of the two sides combined?

We'll has to agree to disagree. Never rated Reyes. Average player. Ronaldo was always a far superior player.

Ronaldo went from being a lightweight show pony to a physical monster and powerful, influential world class goal machine almost overnight. It's like there are two versions of him.

Ace, he was still a good skillfull winger before the 06 world cup. People say he was a one trick pony but it's bull. He did absolutely transform in such a small space of time though. In 06/07 he really improved his consistency and end product, he wasn't that different from the season before in terms of the way he played. I preferred the Ronaldo of that season to any of the seasons since, even though he wasn't as good as he is now.

Ha, I'm still the same - but now I try not to unleash hell unless provoked, trying to avoid a third ban.

Ace Face has good football knowledge. I rate Ace Face highly.

He would definitely be in the JA606 all star team...

I wouldn't.

Switch Ljunberg for Pires while taking Overmars to the right to accomodate Pires on the left.

I concede, if it was a contest for spelling footballers names you'd win. You could put the trophy next to your 'most pointless boring prɨck of the year' award
