Just seen this:-
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11750/8434574/Dave-Martin-leaves-Southend-United-after-terminating-contract-by-mutal-consent
I remember thinking he had some potential, his left foot looked decent in the couple of games I saw him play, although he only whipped one really dangerous cross in, it was at a time when we were lacking any crossing ability.
After being courted by Nigel for a while, arriving on loan, then being signed permanently, Martin was soon banished to the reserves and offered to other clubs.
Maybe a really bad attitude? Maybe lack of talent? Whatever it is, it's a big fall in a couple of seasons to be unable to get into the Southend side.
Waste of talent? or Not good enough?

Obviously he was a world-class player whose confidence was destroyed by Clough....

Sorry Mos, I was on a dodgy Brazilian WiFi in a beach bar that kept chucking me off line! I hope I haven't offended you the local beer may have something to do with it also

I am unsure what happened here as he though him failing to adapt to Clough's style was not too shocking; Clough is a tough manager to please. However, for him to fall out of a League 2 club's side seems surprising, I thought he was OK.

Alf, don't take this the wrong way, but OUR FANS are a tough bunch to please.
I mean, Danny Murphy, who the bl--dy hell, is he? Well, a couple of years ago he was part of Fulham's run to the Europa League final. I was surprised he was let go by Fulham. They haven't exactly improved since he (& esp Dembele) left.

Oh, I agree our fans are tough to please as well, but I do not think Martin played enough to even fail to impress.

His record since leaving shows WHY he didn't play 'enough' for us Al... cheap punts aren't always going to come good, as Bob often points out that is the peril of shopping in the £200k-£500k market.

Tough to please? really?
Most Derby fans see us as a premier league club. We haven't got anywhere near there for 5 years and have been closer to relegation and yet the manager never faces calls to be sacked (bar 1 or 2 on forums like this)
After the disgrace of yesterday fans of many clubs would have rounded on the manager.
I think we are quite easy to please and more than patient. One shot on target yesterday at home against a championship also ran may have helped pacify a few people.

Yes, and you kind of prove my point with this statement.
'Most Derby fans see us as a Premier League Club.'
That's your perception but it does not accord with actual reality.
I also don't think our resources match our fans' expectations - and certainly our overall performance and achievement over the past decade or so is one more of underachievement: one play-off semi and one promotion season amidst many lower half finishes in the second tier.
Yes, we're a PL side in terms of support & facilities but not on merit. We have been run badly or are now being run on a budget. We are what we are, a solid if unspectacular Championship side.
'the disgrace of yesterday': you don't seem to put yesterday's defeat into any sort of context. OK, we made mistakes, the midfield a problem, getting the best out of Sammon (a strike partnership) & the side looks out of form, but why do people forget that football is played by two teams, and that the opposition want to win as well. And a look at Blackburn's personnel, from Murphy to Pedersen will show a side that may be run badly off the pitch but still has many good performers in it. As others said, how many Rovers players would get in our team and how many of ours would get in theirs?
I agree that our fans are patient and long-suffering, but that, I feel, is more because of the club's finances than to do with any particular manager. We have been hampered by debt since 2000. I can't see things changing unless we keep faith with the slow-build approach of developing our own players & using a transfer fee to reinvest in the team.

Which means we HAVE to sell hughes then capn! That will then be followed by the usual uproar & hysterics before we see who is brought in... And round and round we go!

And round and round we go
Yes, I like that, very true.
