agree with RAP you adhere to the laws of the country youre in, just like the woman who's been sentenced to death in bali for drug trafficking, if you dont break the law you dont get punished

A workmate and I are discussing it at the moment, I myself am unsure of the laws over there but I have to assume for these guys to receive such a harsh sentance there must be evidence of them doing something above the normal level of rioting (e.g stamping, stabbing, clubbing someone to death etc)
I do realise I say normal level of rioting ... couldn't think of any other way to put it haha

Ahh a sensible thread.
I agree with Anfield RAP. No one should attend a game of football and wind up in the morgue, it's just not worth it. Personally I don't get the whole hooliganism thing, I remember as a small child attending Arsenal / Tottenham games and being scared for my life. I desperately wanted to watch my team as I live 100miles away from London and it was a special treat but looking back on it how could I have enjoyed watching it in such circumstances.
Riots at football matches are just plain stupid. People are responsible for their own actions and in countries such as these discipline is dished out in different ways to our own, this is common knowledge to the people who live there.
I'm not saying the death penalty is right or wrong but 74 people died, an eye for an eye? Probably but what would we be saying if it was brushed under the carpet like racism in Eastern Europe or the perpetrators got 1 year in prison?
Just saying, discuss.

Fennell it is an interesting topic, Anfield has made some good points I just wish I knew more of the laws and regulations over there.
Seen some horrible things happen after football games over the years but this riot was no doubt the worst I think we will ever see.
It may sound strange but I hope the guys sentanced to death deserved it, my own opinions say that if you have physically killed somebody or assisted in taking somebody's life then a death sentence is no more than you deserve.

What is the logic behind giving this article five stars? What does that person mean?

From what I remember of how this was reported at the time, these were largely political riots linked to the Arab spring uprising. The football matchmerely provided a venue and background.
I also seem to remember that there was some form of police collusion suggested, with them favouring one side over the other and even assisting the worst offenders.
It's a far more complicated affair than simply wo sets of rival fans laying into each other
