After watching the FA youth cup 1st leg last night, it left me excited with the prospects that the academy has to offer, however I wondered if I just saw them as prospects because I'm a blade:
If anyone saw the match last night would you regard any of our youngsters as talented? Or is it me just watching the game through rose tinted specs? It was obvious that the Man Utd U18s were clearly talented, so did we just grind out a result against a better team through hard work: or do our youngsters have some prospects to?

Maguire looked very solid and having watched a replay I'm pretty sure it was his head not his hand that kept the ball out. Him and Slew have got to be first choice next season. None of the others particularly stood out, but we have to remember that they were up against very good players most of whom would walk into any Championship side. So yeah, there's plenty of potential there and Pembo has got them playing well as a team. Some nice neat passing football, which made a nice change from recent seasons!

I thought the other centre half looked better than maguire? And i thought the captain could be a replacement for Monty if he was to go: looked sturdy, wasn't afraid to put his head in where it hurts.

Sorry did not go but my mate did & he was most impressed with the performance and, trust me he does NOT dish out compliments too easily.
Oh & hello nice to see a site that looks just like the old BBC one think this is where I'll be pitching me tent from now on.

Watched it on the internet and apart from the first half hour when we seemed to freeze I thought it was a very good team performances with a couple of stand out individuals, particularly Whitehouse.
Will be very tough at OT, but to match them in the first game when you consider the resources is a proud achievement.
PS
agree with bypass Blade I hope this site takes off, looks impressive so far.

I watched a stream of the game. As a none Blade i thought they played well. I thought they had a nice team ethos and passed the ball well. And that's part of the problem because (and i am not trying to wind you up when I say this) that playing a controlled passing game tends not to be the way the Sheffield United team have played in recent seasons. Therefore with the exception of the most physical among them like Maguire I am not sure how they will fit easily into the first team style.
I think you will find the junior players fit best into first teams at clubs where a playing style is consistant through all levels of the club.
Now it may be that the Blades sign a new manager like Robins who believes in passing football in the first team and this lack of consistancy is addressed but that remians to be seen. And I have to say when I have been to BDBL (which I do frequently with my partner who is a Blade) there always seems an unwillingness among a large number of supporters to encourage anything other than an up an at 'em approach. Given this is the case I fear a few of the "boo boys" will quickly erode the confidence of young players trying something different.
