£3.5m is the asking price. Thats peanuts for a young goalkeeper that is almost already England's number 2. With question marks over Reina, and the obvious sort-comings of Brad Jones, we need another keeper. Butland turned down talks with Chelsea because he wants to play regularly. Fair enough as chelsea have Cech in good form. and this Courtois bloke who is doing quality at Atletico. However its clear to me that within the next two years we will need a new first choice keeper. I say we make the offer of £3.5m saying you can keep him on loan until the summer.

Would love Ter Stegen he'll be one of the best keepers in the world soon.
I would take Butland for that price. People say he doesn't play that well but the goalkeeping position is an enigma. At such a young age he's going to look no where near as good as the experienced keepers, just look at De Gea. I think he's excellent just making poor keeping decisions and everyone slates him. A few years and both will shine.

We have to remember what happened to Carson and Kirkland too, they were a waste on money, Kirkland mainly to injuries.

What do you guys think of Gulasci, he seemed decent for a while but seems to have stalled a bit in development. Should be out on loan somewhere for me?
-------------------------
i had high hopes for him, looked promising, if he can't get in front of Jones who most think is crap, then what good would sending Gulacsi out on loan do?
i don't think it will make any dif personally, so if he isn't going to make it here, we should get rid and bring in someone who might.

£3.5m is still a lot for a guy who has half a season in the Championship and is out of contract in 2 years.
Yes it will be peanuts if he goes on to prove as good as his hype, but is that likely?
We can't have him as number 1 next season, so why would he want to join us if he wants first team football?
A good young keeper should be a priority for us, but one who is either accepting of being a number 2 for now (if Reina is staying), or one who is ready now to be a number 1 from next season if Reina is going.
Butland does not fill either of those criteria.
The last time we signed a promising young keeper from the Championship to be number 1, it was David James, and the position of being Liverpool keeper was too much for him at that age.
There are not many young goalkeepers in the world who could cope with the pressure of being Liverpool keeper.

Could even put Chris Kirkland in the category of young keeper with potential risks that failed. (Of course injuries played a key part)

I'd prefer him to Victor Valdes anyway and knowing our luck with signings as good as Begovic is looking now he'd probably end up being cack for us.

At 3.5 i hope moyes doesn't come in and ruin another good young keeper. Just look at Ruddy go once he was set free.
Birmingham must be in trouble. They quote 8 in the summer.

Prefer Butland to Valdes?!

Looks like Stoke are in for Butland now.
I guess that means they know Begovic will be on his way soon.
