Hooper....why Celtic will sell !

As much as I'd hate to see Hooper go in this window it doesn't make financial sense to keep him until the summer. We could get 7 or 8 million for him now ...but in the summer we would be lucky to get 5m as he could sign a pre contract in January. Pistol is no mug when it comes to these matters so I fully expect Hooper to be gone by 11pm.
Hope I'm wrong but just can't see Celtic throwing away 3m for the sake of 2 games against Juve!

CelticBhoy - I'm sure Matthews is worth a place on the bench at least.

Im more than confident in Celtic doing it

My view is that Hooper is happy at Celtic but wants to play in the Premiership which is fair enough. Why don't he and Lawell agree that he signs a contract extension in May and we agree to sell him in the summer for £7-£8m, as we did with Stan Petrov. EPL clubs are more inclined to spend big in the summer so I'm sure there will be bigger clubs than Norwich in for him.

In principle I agree......perhaps the offer has been made to Hooper to except an improved wage then Celtic get the right money for him.

Only problem is there is no guarentee anyone will come in for him in the summer.

If he has a bad patch between now & the summer clubs may think he's not consistant enough & not bid.

Don't forget alot of the talks are held by the agent rather than the player himself.

"Davie - We get €3.9m plus TV money plus sponsership money plus gate receipts if we get past Juventus. That is why I think we should through away £3m for 2 games against Juve."

Straight out of the David Murray book of business plans

Stevie I sort of see your point but Celtic are in a strong position. As mentioned earlier the sale of Ki and the CL money puts them in a position where perhaps they can afford to take a risk.

If the deal was right for the clubs and the player Hooper would have been gone by now.

I said earlier i think that Hooper may have thought a decent sized club would have came in for him but that hasnt happened he might reconsider his contract with us. I dont honestly think he is desperate to get out of Celtic. We'll see what the summer brings but for now he is our player and he wont be leaving today.

Me and you are on the same thoughts, my post above says it doesn't make sense to sell him. yes we may get more now than in the summer, but whats to say he plays out of his skin in the CL then surley come the summer could be a few teams coming in for him.

Like you said Celtic can take this risk because of the sale of KI and CL money....selling him now unless a very silly offer doesn't make sense

Reports coming out of Celtic is Hooper is going nowhere and will not except any bids at this late stage this for me is the right move well done Celtic if reports are correct
